INEI professionals presented report about trainings received in Mexico and Colombia during the year 2023

Officials of the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) set out in Thursday 27 of June of the current year their experiences and lessons learned in international trainings received in 2023.
During the opening of the event, Francisco Casaretto Fonseca, INEI Secretary-General, outstood the importance of exchange of experiences with colleagues of other countries carrying out similar work. He also added that these experiences would then be shared with all INEI workers, which at the same time improve the institution’s image.
Likewise, Francisco Casaretto stressed the resumption of presentation meetings of INEI professionals that received trainings, sessions that had been suspended due to the pandemic.
He also added that these internships may be an incentive for other workers of the INEI, whom may also have an opportunity to participate in future events.
On the other hand, Digna Mateo Igreda, of the Executive Management of from the Cartography and Geography, shared the learned in her internship in the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) of Mexico, which subjects were; the update of the Cartography, Registry of Homes and Directory of Populated Centers.
The event performed between June 5th and 9th of 2023, in Aguas Calientes, Mexico, had as main objectives: i) To know the methodologies and its operativity in the treatment of satellite images and its interpretation for census purposes and ii) To know the processes of cartographic update.
Meanwhile, Lourdes Huerta Rosales, related about her experience in the “IV Workshop about BIG DATA for Official Statistics: Use of Satellite Images for SDG indicators”, event took place in Colombia, between August 29th and 31st of 2023.
In this occasion, the workshop objectives were: i) To calculate the SDG indicator 11.7.1 for a city of the country of each participant, in order to identify the urban zones and public spaces, through geo-processing, and ii) To strengthen the use of Big Data in official statistics and to promote the use of satellite images that would allow the monitoring the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
