IMF will support the implementation of the Program about the statistics of climate change

The climatic change have economic and social implications of great scope, many countries face greater physical and of transition risks related with this phenomenon; in order to deal with this issue we need solid and comparable data.
In order to help in the statistics design and implementation about the climate change suitable for the needs of the country, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) receive the visit of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), that performs a Diagnostic Mission in the framework of the “Development Program of Environmental Statistical Capacities and of Climate Change” from 10 to 14 July of 2023.
In the event there were assessed the priorities of the country in view of its climatic challenges and will identify key indicators for the development of the Program that will have two year duration. The Program will provide a tool and technical assistance necessary to prepare statistics, carrying out workshops and training courses that will allow the policy formulation to deal with the environmental, financing, economic and social consequences of the climate change.
In the opening of the Mission, participates the Chief of the INEI, Mr. Dante Carhuavilca Bonett, IMF officials, Mr. Michael Stanger and Mr. Joaquim Guilhoto, the representative of the Swiss Cooperation that finances the program, Mrs. Jenny Valencia, besides the INEI specialists and of the different public institutions related with the climate issue: Ministry of Environment, Peruvian Central Reserve Bank, Ministry of Economy and Finance, National Center of Strategic Planning, Ministry of Agricultural Development and Irrigation, National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology, Ministry of Energy and Mines and Ministry of Production.
