Traffic flow of vehicles at national level grew 4.1% during July

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that during the month of July of 2025, the traffic flow of vehicles through the tollbooths of the country increased by 4.1% compared to the same month of 2024 and during the last 12 months (August 2024 – July 2025) increased by 3.5%.

In the Technical Report Vehicular Flow through Tollbooth Units, details that this monthly behavior was based in the greater movement of heavy-duty (4.6%) and light-duty (3.8%) units. Meanwhile, the National Seasonally Adjusted Index of the Vehicular Flow in the tollbooth units slightly increased by 0.4%, compared to the last month.

Traffic flow of heavy-duty units increased by 4.6%
During the month of July of the current year, the traffic Flow of heavy-duty vehicles through the tollbooth units increased by 4.6% compared to the same month of the last year. This result responds to the dynamism of the Agribusiness sectors due to the greater volume of crops before the suitable climatic conditions that allow the development of the crops; and Fishing, due to the increasing landing of anchovy of industrial use, associated to the start of the 2025 first fishing season in the north-center area.

In addition, due to the demand of the heavy-load service of the following sectors: Mining and hydrocarbons that registered high levels of copper, gold, zinc, silver, lead and tin extraction; Manufacturing, driven by the non-primary manufacturing subsector of the capital goods area and primary manufacturing subsector (precious and non-ferrous metals); Construction reflected in the higher domestic cement consumption of the private sector and the physical progress of public works at local and regional government level; and the wholesale trade, due to the sale of heavy-duty machinery due to the growing demand of the extractive activities and of construction activities.

The tollbooths that registered more traffic, were: to the north, in San Martín (Pongo 17.0%, Moyobamba 4.4% and Aguas Claras 3.3%), La Libertad (Pacanguilla 11.5%, Chicama 9.5% and Virú 3.8%), Piura (Paita 10.1%, Chulucanas 6.4%, Piura Sullana 6.4% and Loma Larga Baja 1.8%), Lambayeque (Diversion Olmos 9.5%), Cajamarca (Pomahuaca - Pucará 9.3%) and Ancash (Huarmey 6.3%).

In the center, increased in Lima (Serpentine of Pasamayo 8.2%, Fortaleza 6.3%, El Paraíso 3.5%, Variant of Pasamayo 2.0%) and Junín (Quiulla 4.5%); and in the south, in Arequipa (Uchumayo-concession 36.6%, Patahuasi 26.6% and Matarani-concession 11.9%), Moquegua (Ilo 22.6%), Apurímac (Pichirhua 15.5%), Ayacucho (Pampa Galera 11.5%), Ica (Marcona 3.7% and Jahuay Chincha 3.2%) and Puno (Santa Lucía 3.6%).

Traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles for loading of 3 to 7 axle increased by 4.0%
During the month under analysis, the traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles for loading of 3 to 7 axle registered an increase of 4.0% compared to July of 2024, due to the greater movement of vehicles such as trailers, semi-trailers and heavy trucks for the movement of cargo of 3 axle (2.9%), 4 axle (1.0%), 5 axle (3.8%) and 6 axle (5,4%); nevertheless, the traffic flow of 7 axle vehicle (-7.2%).


Traffic flow of light-duty units increased by 3.8%
During July of 2025, the traffic flow of light-duty vehicles through the tollbooth units across the country, increased by 3.8% compared to the same month of the year, based in the greater traffic flow of persons during the holidays of the Day of the Peruvian Air Force and National Holidays that convened a great presence of public in the Civic-Military Parade in Lima; as well as cultural and artistic events in different regions of the country.

Likewise, it was clear the greater presence of public in gastronomic events such as the “Festival of National Holidays”, “Gastromaq Perú” and “Perú Mucho Gusto” in Lima, and “Qué Rico Perú” in Huancayo; in addition, due to the start of half-year vacations. It is worth to mention that these events drive the retail trade, hosting service and domestic tourism.

The tollbooths units with greater traffic flow, were: to the north, Lambayeque (Diversion Olmos 13.1%), San Martín (Aguas Claras 12.4% and Pongo 4.7%), Piura (Loma Larga Baja 11.9%, Chulucanas 10.7%, Paita 6.1% and Piura Sullana 6.0%), Ancash (Huarmey 11.2%), La Libertad (Chicama 10.9%, Pacanguilla 8.7% and Virú 0.2%) and Cajamarca (Pomahuaca - Pucará 10.6%).

In the center, in Lima (Fortaleza 10.8%, Variant of Pasamayo 4.9%, El Paraíso 3.5% and Corcona 3.2%) and Junín (Casaracra 9.4% and Quiulla 5.2%); and in the south, in Arequipa (Uchumayo-concession 49.1%, Matarani- concession 3.0% and Patahuasi 1.1%), Apurímac (Pichirhua 9.2%), Ica (Jahuay Chincha 1.9%) and Ayacucho (Pampa Galera 1.1%).
