In June of 2025 the commercial activity grew 3.14%

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that the Commerce sector registered a growth of 3.14% in June of 2025 compared to the same month of the last year. This result was explained by the good performance of the wholesale trade, retail trade and automotive trade. Likewise, it stated that during the first semester of 2025 this sector accumulated a growth of 3.19% compared to the same period of 2024.
Wholesale commerce kept a growing trend
During June of 2025, the wholesale commerce increased by 2.96% compared to the same month of the last year. This behavior was mainly driven by the sale of heavy-duty machine intended to mining, construction and fishing sectors, in addition to electric equipment, office and medical devices. In addition, it outstood the sale of household goods due to the greater demand of pharmaceutical and medicinal products, white and brown goods, office articles, cosmetics and personal care products, favoured by advertising campaigns and tenders.
Likewise, it was observed a positive performance in the sale of foods, beverages and tobacco, as a result of the greater supply to markets and retail chains, as well as the allocation of tenders.
The sale of fertilizers, chemical products of agriculture use and bulk paper also showed a favorable behavior, as well as the group of agro-livestock raw materials and life animals, driven by the commercialization of grains, seeds, oleaginous fruits (mainly avocado), citric and life chicken. In the same line, the sale of construction materials and hardware articles increased due to the greater rotation of cement, in response to the demand of the private sector and the progress of public works at local and regional level. On the other hand, the sale of liquid and gas fuels and lubricants to retail gas stations also registered a growing performance.
Retail commerce increased by 2.93%
In June of 2025, the retail commerce grew 2.93% compared to the same month of the last year, mainly driven by the sale of fuels for automotive vehicles in gas stations and gas refueling stations. Likewise, the sale of pharmaceutical and medicinal products, cosmetics and toiletries thanks to the entry of new lines, discounts and promotions. In addition, the sale of optical products, of industrial security, agro-veterinary, seeds, fertilizers and agricultural inputs, as well as jewelry and watches.
The commerce in supermarkets and mini-markets increased due to the greater demand of food products and opening of new facilities. The sale of computers, peripherical and software equipment and telecommunication equipment progressed due to the increasing demand of technological products of high quality and integral solutions.
On the other hand, the department stores registered a favorable result, driven by discounts in fashion and technologies, campaigns by the “Father’s Day” and improves in their sales channels. Likewise, the sale of household appliances, furniture, illumination devices and articles for the household grew thanks to the campaigns of home renovation proper of the half of the year season.
In addition, it showed dynamism the sale of construction materials, hardware retailing and glass articles, in response to the demand of cement, brick, iron and tools. Nevertheless, the sale of books, newspaper and stationary items in specialized stores decreased.
Automotive commerce increased by 5.58%
During June of 2025, the automotive commerce grew 5.58% compared to June of 2024, mainly due to the greater demand of light-duty, heavy-duty and small vehicles, driven by events such as “Toyotamás” and “Salón Motor Perú 2025”, the opening of new establishments, fleet renewal and greater facilities of financing.
The sale of parts, pieces and accessories of automotive vehicles also showed dynamism thanks to the greater rotation of pneumatics and car bodies, as well as the opening of new facilities. At the same time, the maintenance and repair of vehicles positively evolved by the increase of service orders in mechanic and electric repairs, cleaning and polishing, in accordance with the increase of transportation of goods and passengers, as well as the expansion of the commercial activity in different regions of the country.
