Traffic flow of vehicles at national level grew 4.2% in March of 2025

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), informed that during the month of March of 2025, the traffic flow of vehicles at national level increased by 4.2% compared to the same month of the last year, according to the National Rate of Vehicular flow the one that reports the movement of light-duty and heavy-duty units through the tollbooths. In the last twelve months (April 2024 – March 2025), the rate accumulated a growth of 4.0%.
In the Technical Report Vehicular Flow by Tollbooths details that this progress was based in the greater traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles (6.3%) and light-duty vehicles (2.6%).


Heavy-duty vehicles: growth of 6.3%
During March of 2025, the traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles grew 6.3% compared to the same month of the last year. This increase was driven by a greater demand of the transportation linked to agribusiness activities favoured by optimal weather conditions, as well as fishing sectors, mining sectors (due to the high volumes of extraction of copper, zinc, silver molybdenum and lead), construction (both public and private) and wholesale commerce, with an increase in sales of fuels, heavy-duty machinery, household goods, industrial equipment, among others.

The tollbooths registered greater traffic flows of vehicles in the north were: La Libertad: Pacanguilla (28.2%), Viru (16.3%) and Chicama (16.1%), Piura: Paita (22.2%), Piura Sullana (16.9%) and Chulucanas (8.1%), Ancash: Huarmey (16.8%), Cajamarca: Pomahuaca-Pucará (9.0%), Lambayeque: Diversion Olmos (8.1%), San Martin: Aguas Claras (6.6%), Moyobamba (5.2%) and Pongo (3.9%).
In the center and in the south of the country also were observed increases in: Lima: Serpentine of Pasamayo (22.3%), Fortaleza (19.2%), El Paraíso (13.6%) and Variant of Pasamayo (0.8%), Junín: Quiulla (4.2%), Moquegua: Ilo (20.8%), Ica: Marcona (20.2%) and Jahuay Chincha (15.1%), Arequipa: Matarani Concesión (19.7%), Uchumayo Concesión (9.4%) and Patahuasi (7.9%).

Traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles for loading of 3 to 7 axle increased by 5.2%
The traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles for loading of 3 to 7 axle increased by 5.2% during March of 2025 compared to the same month of the last year. The growth was explained by the greater traffic flow of trailers, semi-trailers and trucks of: 3 axle (1.3%), 4 axle (7.1%), 6 axle (8.7%) and 7 axle (27.1%). On the other hand, it registered a slight drop in those of 5 axle (-0.6%).


Light-duty vehicles: progress of 2.6%
The traffic flow of light-duty vehicles through the tollbooths of the country, increased 2.6% during March of 2025, compared to the same month of the last year. This growth was related to the greater movement of persons by events such as carnivals in different regions, The Woman’s Day, cultural and gastronomic fairs such as “Expo Healthy Living Junin 2025” (La Molina), “Expo Live Callao 2025” (Callao) and the “International Festival of the Grape Harvest 2025” (Ica). In addition, it influenced the beginning of the school year, boosting activities such as the retail commerce, accommodation and restaurants.

The tollbooths with greater activity of light-duty vehicles were: to the north in Chicama (8.6%) and Pacanguilla (2.3%) in La Libertad. In Piura was greater in Paita (6.6%), Piura Sullana (4.4%) and Chulucanas (3.9%), meanwhile, in the departments of San Martín outstood Pongo (5.1%).

In the center: the Serpentine of Pasamayo (40.9%) in Lima and Quiulla (2.5%) in Junín. In the south: Pampa Cuellar (19.9%) and Ilo (10.2%) in Moquegua; Matarani Concesión (7.7%), Uchumayo Concesión (5.9%) and Patahuasi (3.5%) in Arequipa; and Santa Lucía (2.2%) in Puno.
