Restaurants activity increased 0.64% in February 2025

In February of 2025, restaurants activity (food and beverage services) grew 0.64%, compared to the same month of the last year, due to the positive performance of the group of restaurants and other activities of foods service; nevertheless, the beverage service and the catering food service registered negative results.
According to the results of the Monthly Survey of Restaurants carried out by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), during the two first months of this year, this economic activity accumulated an increase of 1.99%, compared to the period January-February of 2024.
Restaurants group registered a variation of 0.03%
During the second month of this year, the restaurants group increased by 0.03%, compared to the same month of the last year. This was explained by the increasing activity in establishments such as: touristic restaurants, sandwich restaurants, restaurants in general, meats and grills, cevicherías (seafood restaurant) and confectionery, in response to the greater demand for new promotions, summer combos, discounts by affiliation in mobile telephony and presentation of live music.
Dates such as Valentine’s Day, Pachamanca National Day, Cajamarca Carnivals, The Candelaria feast and the performance of gastronomic fairs such as “Feria Perú Produce” and “Cevichazo a la chalaca” in Lima, “FILO Summer Fest 2025” in Punta Hermosa and “Mixtura Ancashina 2025” in Huaraz, influenced in this result.
Meanwhile, there were affected the business of fast foods, Pollerías (grilled chicken restaurants), Chifas (Chinese food restaurants), coffee restaurants, pizza restaurants, international food and Creole food, before the lower demand caused by the temporary closure of facilities on February 22nd of 2025, of the Real Plaza shopping centers at national level, as a sign of mourning due to the accident registered in their facilities of the city of Trujillo.
Other activities of food services grew by 3.91%
During February of 2025, other activities of food service reached a growth of 3.91%, compared to the same month of the year 2024. Contributed to this result the increase in the supply of foods for contractors (food services for Transportation companies) caused by the greater frequency of travels in lines of air and ground service both in Lima and provinces, due to promotions in travel packages by festivities.
In addition, the activity of food concessionaries was favoured by the increase of service orders, opening of branches and renovation of contracts with banking companies, fishing and cement companies, ministries, hospitals, clinics and universities.
Beverage service registered a decrease by 1.33%
The INEI informed that the beverage service registered a reduction of 1.33% during the second month of this year, compared to the same month of the year 2024. This performance was linked to a lower activity in establishments of bar-restaurants and juice shops, affected by the temporary closure of shopping centers due to the municipality inspections as security measure.
On the other hand, coffee shops, bars and discos showed greater customer acquisition, free passes, entertainment shows, promotions, discounts and remodeling of facilities. Positively influenced the celebration of Pisco Sour Day with promotions such as 2x1 in all their presentations (Passion fruit Sour, Pineapple Sour, Aguaymanto Sour, Fresh herbs Sour); and the participation in the fairs such as “XIX Festival del Pisco Sour” in Lima and “IX Festival Huaral Sour 2025” in Huaral, among the main ones.
Catering foodservice decreased by 3.21%
During February of 2025, the catering foodservice decreased 3.21%, compared to the same month of the last year. According to above described was caused by the reduction in the service of preparation and distribution of foods for events, in response to a lower customer portfolio, as well as the reduction of requirements of catering service.
