Traffic flow of vehicles at national level increased 3.1 % in January of 2025

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that during the month of January of 2025, the National Rate of Vehicular flow the one that reports the movement of light-duty and heavy-duty units through the tollbooths grew by 3.1 %, compared to the same month of 2024.
In the Technical Report Vehicular Flow by Tollbooths stated that this positive behavior was influenced by the greater traffic flow of heavy-duty units (3.8%) and light-duty units (2.7%).
Traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles increased by 3.8%
During January of 2025, the movement of heavy-duty vehicles through the tollbooths at national level increased by 3.8 % compared to the same month of the last year, driven by the significative demand of units for the transportation of products related to the agro-livestock activity based in in the development of the agriculture subsector by suitable climatic conditions, as well as the livestock subsector.
In addition, it contributed the demand of the fishing sectors due to the greater capture of species of maritime origin intended for the processing of fishmeal and fish oil; mining, reflected in the increased extraction of copper, molybdenum and silver; and manufacturing, determined by the primary manufacturing subsector in the processing and preserving of fish, crustaceous and molluscs; and refined products of petroleum. Moreover, the construction activities due to the physical progress of works in national, regional and local government; and wholesale trade due to the sale of solid, liquid, gas fuels and lubricants.
The tollbooths that registered growths were: to the north, in Piura (Chulucanas 16.3 %), La Libertad (Pacanguilla 14.7 %, Chicama 12.6 % and Virú 5.0 %), Áncash (Huarmey 11.1 %), San Martín (Moyobamba 11.0 %, Aguas Claras 10.2 % and Pongo 7.5 %), Lambayeque (Diversion Olmos 6.6 %) and Cajamarca (Pomahuaca-Pucará 7.6 %).
In the center, Lima (Serpentine of Pasamayo 13.8 %, Fortaleza 12.4 %, El Paraíso 8.6 %, and Variant of Pasamayo 3.2 %) and Junín (Quiulla 5,3 %); and in the south, Apurímac (Pichirhua 62.6 %), Moquegua (Ilo 21.4 % and Pampa Cuellar 12.6 %), Ayacucho (Pampa Galera 18.8 %), Ica (Jahuay Chincha 14.2 % and Marcona 4.5 %), Arequipa (Matarani Concesión 8.7 % and Uchumayo Concesión 4.7 %) and Puno (Santa Lucía 0.1 %).
Traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles for loading of 3 to 7 axle grew by 5.0 %
During the month under analysis, the traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles for loading of 3 to 7 axle, registered an increase of 5.0 % compared to January of 2024, explained by the high traffic of trailers, semi-trailers and heavy duty trucks for loading of 3 axle (1.3 %), 4 axle (3.7 %), 5 axle (8.4 %), 6 axle (6.7 %) and 7 axle (30.6 %).
Traffic flow of light-duty vehicles increased by 2.7 %
During January of 2025, the traffic flow of light-duty vehicles through the tollbooths of the country grew by 2.7 % compared to the same month of 2024. This behavior was favoured by school holidays, as well as the students of institutes and universities due to the summer season. Likewise, influenced by the Anniversary of Lima, added to the different gastronomic fairs performed, such as Sazón y Sabor Peruano in Lima and Achichalud Piura 2025, events that motivated the displacement of national and foreign tourist to different regions of the country, encouraging the tourism, the retail commerce, the entertainment and accommodation activities and restaurants.
The tollbooths with greater movement were: to the north, in San Martín (Moyobamba 12.3 %, Pongo 10.7 % and Aguas Claras 10.1 %), Piura (Loma Larga Baja 6.6 % and Chulucanas 5.3 %), La Libertad (Chicama 8.4 % and Pacanguilla 7.6 %), Lambayeque (Diversion Olmos 6.8 %), Ancash (Huarmey 4.2 %) and Cajamarca (Pomahuaca-Pucará 3.1 %).
In the center, Lima (Serpentine of Pasamayo 23.7 %, Fortaleza 4.5 %, Corcona 4.0 % and Variant of Pasamayo 0.3 %) and Junín (Casaracra 12.1 % and Quiulla 10.2 %); and in the south, in Apurímac (Pichirhua 35.4 %), Ayacucho (Pampa Galera 6.7 %), Ica (Jahuay Chincha 7.2 % and Marcona 1.8 %), Arequipa (Matarani Concesión 3.6 % and Uchumayo-Concesión 1.4 %), Moquegua (Ilo 3.5 % and Pampa Cuellar 3.5 %) and Puno (Santa Lucía 1.7 %).
