Technical Mission of the UNFPA provides assistance to the INEI for the implementation of the Census in the next National Censuses 2025

In order to strengthening the capacities for the preparation, implementation, monitoring and communication of the National Censuses 2025: XIII o Population, VIII of Housing and IV of Indigenous Communities, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) received a technical mission of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) comprised by the representatives of the National Institute of Statistics of Uruguay, CELADE and UNFPA.
The specialists highlighted that the Censuses of Population and Housing 2025 are a key opportunity to integrate technological innovations, such as the E-Census, that will allow to optimize the data collection, improve the coverage and facilitate the citizen participation.
Itis worth to mention that, by applying the E-Census, the person could be registered in line using a cellphone, its laptop or PC from their home. This modality is complementary and will allow to collect data from the usual residents of the country that cannot receive the registering person that knocks the door and will serve for all the inhabitants being registered.
It is important to mention that inside the recommendations that had been reached to the INEI, there is the performance of a methodological analysis for the implementation of the Census Form in a web environment, the design and implementation of the software development for the implementation of the E-Census and the definition of strategies of dissemination of the E-Census for the promotion of its use.
The working meetings with the mission were performed from December 18 to 20 of the current year in the INEI central headquarters and the work team as composed by Daniel Macadar, member of the equipment of Census of Regional Office of the UNFPA for Latin America and Caribbean; Leonardo Cuello, Director of the Unit of Census of the National Institute of Statistics of Uruguay; Diego Umpierrez, in charge of the Department of Information Technologies of the INE Uruguay; and Carolina Cavada, of the Demographic and Information Area on Population of ECLAC/CELADE.
