Employed population increased 4.9% in Lima Metropolitan area during the third quarter of 2024

According to the results of the Permanent Survey of National Employment (EPEN), the employed population of Lima Metropolitan area increased in 4.9% (253 thousand 400 persons) in the quarter July-August-September of 2024 compared to the same period of the last year. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report in the Situation of the Labor Market in Lima Metropolitan area, which indicated that the employed population reached 5 million 461 thousand 700 persons.
Likewise, it increased the male employed population increased in 5.7% (162 thousand persons); meanwhile, the female employed population increased in 3.8% (91 thousand 600). From the total employed population of Lima Metropolitan area, 54.7% (2 million 985 thousand) are male and 45.3% (2 million 476 thousand 800) women.
The employed population of 45 years of age and older increased in 9.5%
The employed population of 45 years of age and older increased in 9.5% (183 thousand 500), followed by the group of 25 to 44 years of age increased in 4.3% (111 thousand 500), compared to the same quarter of the last year. Nevertheless, the employed population under 25 years of age decreased in 5.9% (41 thousand 500 persons less).
Employed population with university education level increased in 8.5%
During the quarter under study, employed population with university education level increased in 8.5% (130 thousand 400), high-school education level increased in 4.1% (88 thousand 700) and of those that achieved to study the non-university superior education level increased in 3.3% (37 thousand 100). Meanwhile, the employed population achieved to study primary education level slightly decreased in 0.8% (2 thousand 900 persons less).
The employed population increased in 18,0% in the Manufacturing branch
The employed population grew in all branches of activity, outstanding the increase in the activity of Manufacturing in 18.0% (117 thousand 100), followed by Construction in 9.8% (36 thousand 400), Commerce in 3.3% (40 thousand 400) and Services in 2.3% (65 thousand 700).
Employed population increased in all sizes of business
Employed population increased in all the economic units of 1 to 10 workers in 5.1% (163 thousand 100), in establishments of 51 and more workers increased in 4.6% (65 thousand 900), and in the companies of 11 to 50 workers increased in 4.2% (24 thousand 300).
Unemployment rate decreases
The INEI informed that the unemployment rate of Lima Metropolitan area placed in 5.9% during the quarter of July-August-September of 2024, and decreased in 0.8 percentage point compared to the same period of the year 2023. It is estimated in 344 thousand 500 the persons that actively sought a job during the quarter under analysis.
Population with suitable employment increased in 7.7%
During the quarter of July-August-September of 2024, the population with suitable job grew in 7.7% (238 thousand) and reached 3 million 312 thousand 300 persons. On the other hand, the underemployed population increased in 0.7% (15 thousand 400).
Monthly average income coming from work increased in 5.7%
During the quarter under study, the monthly average income coming from work placed in 2,054.90 Soles, a higher figure in 5.7% (111.40 Soles) compared to the same quarter of the year 2023.
According to sex, the average income of women grew in 9.9% (160.30 Soles) and the average income of men grew in 3.0% (65.90 Soles).
Average monthly income of the population of 45 years of age and older increased in 6.7%
The average monthly income coming from work grew in 6.7% (140.60 Soles) in the group of 45 years old and older, in 3.9% (79.30 Soles) in the population of 25 to 44 years old, and in 3.1% (35.90 Soles) in those employed of 14 to 24 years of age.
Average monthly income of the population with university education increased in 5.5%
According to the results of the Permanent Survey of the National Employment (EPEN), the average monthly income coming from work grew in all educational levels. Therefore, among those that have university superior education increased in 5.5% (163.80 Soles), in the population with high-school education level in 5.1% (71.90 Soles), those that have primary education level in 3.8% (43.70 Soles) and the population with non-university superior education level in 3.4% (59.00 Soles).
Average monthly income increased in 9.3% in the Manufacturing sector
The average monthly income coming from work increased in the Manufacturing 9.3% (169.0 Soles), Services 6.7% (138.10 Soles) and Commerce in 1.4% (22.0 Soles) sectors. Meanwhile, in Construction sector slightly decreased in 0.6% (12.3 Soles less).
