A census is the set of operations intended to collect, process, evaluate, and publish data concerning all units in a universe at any given time. Ethymologically, the word census comes from Latin censere that means “count”.

Censuses results have significant use and are used for strategic purposes for the development of a country. In Peru, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI)performs the Census in accordance with the Law No. 13248, Censuses Law, at a frequency of 10 years for the National Census of Population and Housing, and of 5 years for the Economic, Agricultural, Industry, Commercial and Services Censuses.
