Nextel unit invests US$50mn in southern expansion

Topcomm.- Latin American digital trunking service provider NII Holdings plans to invest US$50mn this year to expand coverage of its Nextel Perú unit, local daily Diario Correo reported. The expansion, in the south of Peru, is first targeting Arequipa, to be followed by Moquegua, Tacna, Cusco and Puno. It was originally slated to be finished in 1Q06. Among the services offered are national and international push-to-talk between Nextel customers, interconnection, mobile internet access and text messaging. Nextel Perú has 200,000 clients.
