The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI) has consolidated a new coordination space with private organizations from the agrarian sector to strengthen cooperation within the framework of the implementation of Regulation (EU) No. 2023/1115, the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).
This strategic alliance seeks to accelerate the geolocation of agricultural plots and ensure that producers have the necessary tools to meet the requirements demanded by the European Union market.
To date, MIDAGRI has signed 80 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), with others in the process of being formalized. These agreements allow for the complementing of capacities, expanding the geolocated information of crops, and registering this data in the Registry of Agrarian Producers (PPA). It is important to recall that geolocation is a fundamental requirement to meet the first condition of the EUDR.
During this coordination session, Vice-Minister Carmen Vegas underscored the commitment of the private sector and highlighted the importance of the AgroDigital mobile application, which facilitates plot geolocation and the issuance of compliance reports thanks to its integration with platforms such as Global Forest Watch and Whisp. The tool is free of charge for producers.
Progress and Collaboration from the Private Sector
Among the organizations that stand out for their reach and contribution to this initiative are:
Machu Picchu Foods S.A.C., the second most important agro-export company in Peru in 2024. It works with more than 4,000 cacao farmers and operates 30 collection centers in Junín, Ucayali, Tingo María, Madre de Dios, and Cusco. Its model guarantees sustainability and quality throughout the cacao value chain.
Romex S.A., ranked within the top 10 national exporters in 2024, with a strong presence in coffee and cacao value chains. It manages 12 strategic collection centers across various regions of the country, consolidating itself as one of the main commercial actors in the sector.
Thanks to the MoUs signed and the information shared by the organizations, it is projected that there will be 43,964 geolocated polygons and points, enabling the State to better target its technical assistance, prioritize critical areas, and support producers who still need to complete the geolocation of their crops.
Technology for Sustainable and Competitive Agriculture
MIDAGRI has developed AgroDigital, a tool that allows agricultural producers to access key information for managing their productive activities. Among its features are crop and plot geolocation, satellite monitoring, updating of production data, price consultation, notifications on agrarian and financial services, and access to strategic inputs such as seeds and island guano.
