Peru positioned itself as a regional leader at COP30 by presenting decisive progress toward ensuring deforestation-free agricultural supply chains. During an event organized by the Team Europe Initiative, MIDAGRI highlighted advancements in plot geolocation, data integration, and regulatory improvements aligned with the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).
The country now has more than 113,000 geolocated polygons—on track to reach 180,000 with international support—integrated into the Agricultural Producers Registry and the AGRODIGITAL application, tools that strengthen the traceability of coffee and cacao and facilitate access to sustainable markets.
Interoperability with global platforms such as WHISP and Global Forest Watch Pro was also highlighted. This enables producers to generate compliance reports quickly, free of charge, and in a standardized manner.
In clarifying the legal framework, MIDAGRI led a multisectoral working group composed of 16 public entities. Nearly 200 regulations related to EUDR criteria were reviewed, with support from the European Forest Institute and the SAFE project.
MIDAGRI stated that international cooperation, digitalization, and regulatory clarity are key to advancing toward deforestation-free value chains.
Peru’s participation in COP30 was supported by the SAFE project, co-financed by the European Union (EU), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands (BZ), and Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The project is led by Peru’s Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI) and implemented by the German development cooperation agency, GIZ.
