The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI) reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable and deforestation-free agriculture by organizing a regional workshop on the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) in the district of San Juan del Oro, Puno region.
More than 80 producers, cooperatives, and local authorities participated in this meeting, which addressed the challenges and opportunities presented by the new European framework that will take effect in 2026. The regulation requires that products such as coffee and cacao exported to the European Union be deforestation-free and comply with sustainability standards.
During the event, progress was presented on the National Strategy for the Implementation of the EUDR Regulation, promoted by MIDAGRI under three main pillars: information generation, strengthening of the legal framework, and risk management for due diligence.
The National Forest and Wildlife Service (SERFOR) presented the mechanism of Use Concessions for Agroforestry Systems (CUSAF), aimed at formalizing sustainable activities. Meanwhile, the General Directorate of Agrarian Environmental Affairs (DGAAA) explained the guidelines of the Environmental Management Regulation for the Agrarian and Irrigation Sector (RGASAR).
The workshop brought together CECOVASA, the San Juan del Oro Cooperative, DEVIDA, SERFOR, and the District Municipality of San Juan del Oro, consolidating efforts to strengthen the coffee and cacao value chains in Puno.
Puno is home to more than 8,800 coffee and cacao producers, mainly in the provinces of Sandia and Carabaya, where these crops drive economic and social development. Through these actions, MIDAGRI continues to promote a competitive, sustainable agricultural production model that supports the conservation of Amazonian forests.
