The second day of the International Forum "Strengthening the Value Chains of Deforestation-Free Products and Cross-Border Cooperation"; brought together representatives from governments, industry groups, international organizations, and producers from Latin America to discuss the progress and challenges regarding the implementation of the European Union Regulation on Deforestation (EUDR).

The event took place at the Cumbaza Hotel in Tarapoto and was inaugurated with speeches by Mariella Amemiya (MINCETUR), Olivier Coupleux (EU Delegation to Peru), and Carmen Inés Vegas Guerrero (Vice Minister of Policies and Supervision of Agrarian Development at MIDAGRI), who all agreed that Peru and the region must advance in traceability, geolocation, and information systems to ensure sustainable coffee and cacao production.

During the session, updates on the national strategy to address the EUDR were presented by Lizardo Calderón (MIDAGRI) and Mariella Amemiya (MINCETUR), alongside the experience of the Andean Community. Progress from Ecuador, Colombia, Honduras, and Costa Rica was also highlighted, with models for registering producers, traceability systems, and relevant legal frameworks to comply with the regulation.

International experts from FAO, PROMECAFÉ, BID, and CAF shared global tools, risk analyses, and financing mechanisms that will enable producer countries to adapt to the new
sustainability requirements of international markets.

The session concluded with panels on financing, international cooperation, and the importance of research and innovation, emphasizing the need for joint actions between the
public and private sectors and multilateral organizations to strengthen the coffee and cacao value chains, key drivers of regional development.
