The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI), the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR), and the Association of Exporters (ADEX) today signed an Inter-Institutional Cooperation Agreement, marking a milestone on the path to complying with the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).

This two-year agreement represents a strategic step that unites the public and private sectors to jointly face the challenges posed by the EUDR and to ensure the sustainability of Peru’s main export production chains, with a focus on cacao, coffee, and oil palm.

“The EUDR is not only a regulatory challenge but also an opportunity for Peru to strengthen its position in international markets with traceable, sustainable, and environmentally friendly products. This alliance demonstrates preparedness, adaptability, and a vision for global competitiveness,” emphasized the Vice Minister during the signing.

Under the agreement, MIDAGRI will coordinate with MINCETUR and ADEX the development of guiding documents, field technical assistance, and training activities aimed at producers and exporters. The priority is to build capacity and ensure compliance with the new European standard from the ground up in the production chain.
It was also reaffirmed that sustainability is not only an external requirement but also an internal necessity for producers and Amazonian and rural communities, promoting an inclusive agriculture that generates value, new opportunities, and contributes to forest protection.

With this agreement, Peru is taking decisive steps toward compliance with the EUDR by 2025, positioning itself as a prepared, competitive country committed to sustainable agricultural development.
