The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI) presented the progress of the preliminary analysis of national regulations related to compliance with European Union (EU) Regulation 2023/1115 on deforestation-free products (EUDR). The objective is to guide the competent authority and prepare the agricultural sector to respond to growing international demands.

During the event, Carmen Inés Vegas Guerrero, Vice Minister of Policies and Supervision of Agrarian Development, emphasized that the challenge is not only regulatory but also competitive: "Our goal is to create conditions that allow producers, associations, cooperatives, and exporters to meet these requirements, transforming them into an opportunity to consolidate a more sustainable and competitive agriculture aligned with international standards."

The workshop, divided into six thematic sections: land use, environment, third-party rights, free and informed consent, labor and human rights, and tax and trade regulations, included opportunities for dialogue with private sector representatives to gather input and strengthen the process.

With support from the European Forest Institute (EFI) and the Earth Innovation Institute (EII), progress was also made in traceability and monitoring, such as the geolocation of plots, the strengthening of the AgroDigital application linked to the Register of Agricultural Producers, and partnerships with private platforms such as Global Forest Watch. These tools aim to ensure verification and demonstrate compliance with the fundamental requirement of the EUDR: deforestation-free production.

Likewise, the Multisectoral Working Group will continue to refine the national legal framework and create opportunities for feedback from businesses, cooperatives, unions, civil society, Indigenous peoples, and regional governments.

With these actions, MIDAGRI reaffirms its leadership in the construction of sustainable and competitive agriculture that not only meets European standards, but also opens new market opportunities for thousands of Peruvian producers.
