As part of compliance with the new European Union regulation on deforestation-free products (EUDR), the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI) signed a memorandum of understanding with the agricultural cooperative APPROCAP LTDA to coordinate efforts in the geolocation of cacao farm plots, a key requirement to guarantee the traceability of products exported to the European Union.
The APPROCAP LTDA Agrarian Cooperative is an organization made up of 180 small-scale producers of fine-flavored cacao, located in Morropón, Piura, Peru. It is dedicated to the organic and sustainable cultivation of white cacao. It processes and markets its cacao in various forms, including its own chocolate brand, INTENSSO, which is recognized nationally and internationally.
The objective of the memorandum of understanding is to coordinate efforts between the government and producer organizations to implement the process of geolocating coffee plots, a key requirement for ensuring the traceability of products exported to the European Union.
During the event, the main benefits of the AgroDigital application were presented, as well as the actions that MIDAGRI has been carrying out through the EUDR, which are available to agrarian producers, including:
* Access to international markets that require sustainability and traceability criteria.
* Optimization of export processes, supported by georeferenced and validated technical information.
* Active participation in the AgroDigital Program, which enables precise geolocation of plots and the strengthening of the Agrarian Producers Registry (PPA).
* Reduction in the risk of exclusion from European markets, in compliance with anti-deforestation regulations.
At the meeting, the organization's concerns were addressed, the institutional commitment to the environmental and social sustainability of the agricultural sector was strengthened, and the framework of actions that MIDAGRI has been developing in Piura to ensure compliance with fair trade and deforestation-free production standards was presented.
