The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI) launched digital skills development workshops for small producers in the Amazonas region, as part of the implementation of the European Deforestation-Free Products Regulation (EUDR).

This intervention, articulated through the HADA (Digital Agrarian Skills Development) project, marks a turning point for Amazonian agriculture: moving from digital isolation to connecting with international markets that value sustainability and verified product origins.

Over the weekend, the Amazonian countryside was a scene of action and learning. MIDAGRI training sessions were held in the districts of Utcubamba, Cajaruro, Bongará, and Rodríguez de Mendoza, where local facilitators supported producers in using the AGRODIGITAL app.

To date, 472 people have received training on this free and easy-to-use tool, which allows them to register plots, check market prices, view climatic reports, and directly access Ministry services, all from a mobile phone, securely and in real time.

More than 70% of Amazonian families earn their living from family farming. According to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), more than 85% of rural households in Amazonas own a cell phone. However, access to technology for productive purposes remains limited. Therefore, MIDAGRI is committed to turning cell phones into a tool for empowerment and management, bridging the digital divide and promoting forward-thinking agriculture.

The workshops are part of the National Geolocation Plan and the strengthening of the Integrated Agricultural Statistics System (SIEA). They are held in parallel with the agricultural registration process, an essential requirement for validating the origin of production and facilitating compliance with the EUDR, which facilitates entry into markets that demand traceable and sustainable products.

The HADA project includes 2,800 workshops in 16 regions of the country, with the institutional objective of geolocating 135,000 plots, prioritizing Amazonian territories and rural areas with high productive potential. In Amazonas, implementation is supported by local governments, agrarian organizations, rural communities, and producers themselves, in a joint effort to close gaps, strengthen capacities, and connect agriculture with innovation.

As part of its inclusive approach, the workshops are also delivered in Indigenous languages, with accessible and culturally relevant materials, recognizing the diversity of the territories and ensuring that no one is left out of the process.

With these actions, MIDAGRI reaffirms its commitment to an organized, resilient, and environmentally responsible agriculture, where every producer has the tools to grow, make decisions, and be part of the sustainable development that Peru needs.
