The province of La Convención, in Cusco, hosted the Coffee Forum "Perspectives and Challenges of Coffee Growing in La Convención," where more than 200 stakeholders from the sector gathered to discuss the challenges and opportunities posed by the European Union's Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).

At the meeting, the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI) shared technical and strategic advances to strengthen sustainable coffee farming, especially in terms of plot traceability and geolocation. The latter is a crucial step to ensure that production comes from deforestation-free areas, complying with the requirements of the new European regulations. In addition, the organization of a regional workshop focusing on the operational aspects of the EUDR was announced, with the active participation of producers and leaders of the sector.

The event featured prominent speakers such as Luis Suárez Puelles, executive director, and Guillermo Aguilar Lozano, president of the National Coordinator of Fair Trade Producers of Peru, who agreed on the need to move toward a fair and productive transition that maintains access to international markets without neglecting sustainability.

Also participating were prominent figures in the Peruvian specialty coffee scene, such as Dwight Aguilar Masías, two-time Cup of Excellence winner, and Junior Zanabria Alfaro, two-time national coffee tasting champion, who highlighted the potential of Cusco coffee from a responsible perspective and with a strong territorial identity.

With this participation, MIDAGRI reaffirms its commitment to a modern, inclusive, and environmentally responsible coffee industry, aligned with international standards and the efforts of small Peruvian producers.
