Within the framework of the event "Advances in the Implementation of the EUDR in Peru," organized by the Peruvian Chamber of Coffee and Cocoa together with the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), MIDAGRI presented progress on compliance with the European Union Regulation on Deforestation (EUDR), highlighting its leadership in the country's regulatory and technical adaptation.
During his presentation, MIDAGRI shared data on the number of geolocated plots nationwide, as part of its strategy to strengthen the traceability and sustainability of the coffee, cocoa, and palm oil production chains.
This effort seeks to strengthen verification systems and compliance with the criteria required by the European Union.
In addition, progress was reported on the second condition of the European regulation, related to "relevant legislation." In this regard, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MIDAGRI) has already completed the mapping of national legal requirements related to the production and marketing of raw materials and is currently in the process of defining the final list of standards.
During the event, it was reported that 1.75 million bags have advanced traceability systems. By 2024, it was verified that 99% of Peruvian farms will meet the post-2020 deforestation-free status, a figure that positions Peru as a country with high potential for regulatory compliance.
Key lessons learned from various types of exporting companies were also shared, noting that more than 150 Peruvian exporters are already aligning their processes with this regulation.
The event is part of the Coffee and Forests Agreement, led by the Peruvian Chamber of Coffee and Cocoa and Solidarity, with the goal of strengthening institutional collaboration in the sector, promoting knowledge management, and consolidating a solid, sustainable, and competitive export offering.
With these actions, MIDAGRI reaffirms its commitment to developing sustainable, competitive, and ecosystem-friendly agriculture, working hand in hand with producers, exporters, authorities, and international cooperation agencies.
