As part of compliance with the new European Union Regulation on Deforestation (EUDR), the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation announced that, during the technical visit of delegations from the European Union, the Netherlands, and Germany, progress was presented on sustainable coffee and cocoa production models already being implemented in the Central Jungle.

These field sessions demonstrated the agricultural sector's commitment to a transition toward sustainable production systems, also incorporating principles of gender equity and social inclusion.

On behalf of MIDAGRI, the visit was led by Carmen Vegas, Vice Minister of Agricultural Development Policies and Supervision, who accompanied Jonathan Hatwell, Ambassador of the European Union to Peru; Alexander Kofman, Ambassador of the Netherlands; and Sabine Bloch, Ambassador of Germany.

The participating ambassadors highlighted the leadership of MIDAGRI and the efforts of local producers to adapt to new international demands. They also reaffirmed the importance of continuing to strengthen technical cooperation and collaborative efforts to advance toward a deforestation-free, sustainable, and competitive Peruvian agriculture.

During the mission, cooperatives such as Kemito Ene, Pangoa, Satipo, and ACPC Pichanaki were visited. These cooperatives are beneficiaries of the "Supply Chain Management and Process Optimization" training program, which seeks to strengthen the traceability, geolocation, and environmental sustainability of productive organizations, in accordance with the requirements of the EUDR.

The event was organized by the Team Europe Initiative (TEI) on Deforestation-Free Value Chains, with support from the Sustainable Agriculture for Forest Ecosystems (SAFE) project, co-financed by the European Union (EU), the Dutch Federal Ministry for Foreign Affairs (BZ), and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). This project is implemented by the German Development Cooperation Agency (GIZ).

During the sessions, dialogue was held with regional authorities, local governments, DEVIDA, producer associations, and the Junín Chamber of Commerce, addressing key topics such as traceability, deforestation associated with coffee and cocoa crops, financing, and sustainable production models in the face of climate change.
