To facilitate compliance with the conditions surrounding the European Union Regulation on Deforestation (EUDR), the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI) and the World Resources Institute (WRI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will allow free and unlimited access to satellite analysis tools through its Global Forest Watch (GFW Pro) platform.

This initiative is part of the National Strategy for Adaptation to the EUDR Regulation, promoted by MIDAGRI, which aims to promote sustainable and competitive agricultural exports, prioritizing the reduction of technological gaps between small producers and cooperatives. The implementation of this measure will directly benefit those registered in the Register of Agricultural Producers (PPA) and the National Registry of Agricultural Cooperatives (RNACA), facilitating their access to key digital tools to comply with the new international standards.

The Vice Minister of Agricultural Development Policies and Supervision, Carmen Vegas, emphasized that this agreement represents a strategic step for small producers and agricultural cooperatives. "This agreement will create enabling conditions for our farmers to comply with new international standards without incurring additional costs, guaranteeing the continuity of their exports and strengthening the sustainability of our production chains," she stated.

Representatives from the World Resources Institute reported that GFW Pro is an interactive platform using cutting-edge satellite technology that enables the analysis and monitoring of forest cover, facilitating the generation of evidence on the deforestation-free origin of agricultural products.

Through the PPA mobile app, producers will be able to geolocate their plots, following a quality control check, and through a link to the GFW Pro platform, they will be able to request a deforestation-free report, which will be issued free of charge and unlimited by GFW Pro, enabling compliance with the first key requirement of the EUDR.

This reiterates the government's firm commitment to continue working together to promote sustainable, competitive, and deforestation-free agriculture with producers, exporters, local governments, and international partners.
