The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation participated in the launch of the international project "Compliance with European Union Regulations with Landscape Impact" by the Center for International Forestry Research and the International Centre for Agroforestry Research (CIFOR-ICRAF), which will join the actions the Government has been deploying to comply with the EUDR regulations.

During the project presentation, MIDAGRI presented the progress and technical guidelines it has been developing to facilitate the country's adaptation to this new European regulation, highlighting the work being done to ensure that products such as cocoa, coffee, and palm oil meet the international sustainability and traceability standards required by their destination markets.

The preparatory phase of the project, which will run from May to October 2025, includes convening key stakeholders and identifying priority landscapes for future implementation. During this period, a comprehensive analysis of the sector's opportunities and challenges will be conducted to adapt to the EUDR regulations.

Subsequently, in the implementation phase, actions will include capacity building, the development of traceability systems, the restoration of productive landscapes, and the consolidation of strategic alliances at the national and local levels, under an inclusive and multisectoral approach.

The dialogue spaces, which included the participation of the Ministry of the Environment (MINAM), Helvetas, FAO, the Earth Innovation Institute, the German Development Cooperation (GIZ), the Peruvian Chamber of Coffee and Cocoa, Climate Focus, and FOLUR, emphasized the need to go beyond immediate compliance, promoting structural improvements in value chains that guarantee their long-term sustainability.

The initiative is funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) through its International Climate Initiative (IKI) and implemented by a consortium led by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

The consortium includes the Argentine Wildlife Foundation, the Foundation for Conservation and Sustainable Development (FCDS) of Colombia, Guyra of Paraguay, the Dutch National Committee for IUCN (IUCN NL), and the Center for International Forestry Research and the International Centre for Agroforestry Research (CIFOR-ICRAF), which is leading the coordination of the project in Peru.
