Sustainable and competitive coffee and cacao on the way to the European Union! As part of the 2nd Regional Cacao and Chocolate Festival – Huánuco 2025, the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI) participated in the First “Cacao Innova 2025” Meeting, a space for connecting research, innovation, and entrepreneurship for the competitive and sustainable development of Peruvian cacao.
During the academic forum, key topics were addressed, such as the genetic diversity of Peruvian cacao and its appreciation in the Peruvian Cacao Catalog; the nutraceutical benefits of cacao and chocolate as Amazonian superfoods; strategies to enhance the sector's commercial intelligence with a focus on international markets; and sustainable practices for soil management and fertility, essential for responsible production.
In this context, the MIDAGRI presented the progress and technical guidelines related to compliance with the European Union Regulation on Deforestation (EUDR). The presentation detailed the actions the ministry has been promoting to ensure that products such as cocoa, coffee, and palm oil meet the sustainability, traceability, and legality criteria required by the European market.
In this way, MIDAGRI reaffirms its commitment to sustainable, deforestation-free agriculture, working alongside producers, exporters, authorities, and international cooperation agencies.
