As part of the Government's actions to promote the agro-export of deforestation-free agricultural products in compliance with the European Union Regulation on Deforestation (EUDR), the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI) led the second session of the Working Group for sustainable agricultural production development and marketing of coffee, cocoa, and palm oil, where various agreements were established.

In order to identify joint measures for the sustainability and traceability of Peruvian products in international markets, this second meeting was attended by active representatives of producer associations, such as the National Coffee Board (JNC), the Peruvian Association of Cocoa Producers (APPCACAO), the National Palm Oil Board of Peru (JUNPALMA), and private organizations such as the Association of Exporters (ADEX) and the Peruvian Chamber of Coffee and Cocoa.

During the working session, agreements and commitments were made, such as the development of an action plan to identify multisectoral measures that will be promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture (MIDAGRI). Furthermore, it was agreed to hold sectoral meetings to validate the regulatory framework aligned with the second condition: relevant EUDR legislation. It is also hoped to consolidate proposals and initiatives from the various organizations for presentation to the cooperation panel.

Likewise, it was agreed to share information on the latest technical mission carried out in Belgium and Germany with relevant authorities, representatives of the private sector, and technical bodies of the European Union.

The European Union's Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) establishes conditions for the trade of seven products to the European Union: palm oil, coffee, cocoa, rubber, soy, timber, and cattle.

This regulation requires operators (European importers) to demonstrate that products entering the European Union market must meet three conditions: (i) be free from deforestation, (ii) have been produced in accordance with the legislation of the country of origin and (iii) be supported by a due diligence declaration made by the importer.
With these actions, MIDAGRI reaffirms its commitment to sustainable, deforestation-free agriculture, working alongside producers, exporters, authorities, and international cooperation agencies.
