The Geocatmin online platform from the Geological, Mining and Metallurgical Institute, Ingemmet reaches the age of 10 years creation in the country. It focuses on providing geographic information, with many roles that allow interactivity, easy handling and understanding of the geological and mining cadastral information of Peru.

The main purpose is to provide geo-information portal mining to geological users and the general public in order to promote research, transparency and access to research, through 200 layers of information.

Some of the principal functions is to locate mining concessions with mining potential; also, to identify new projects with environmental authorizations; geological hazards for public or private investment projects and areas with environmental impact studies in order to be reused in mining projects. Then, Geocatmin locates areas with geological studies and surveys in exploration projects as well as energy sources (hydro, wind and geothermal) for investment projects; and also it identifies population centers affected by a project, in order to design citizen participation plans.

Two years after this online platform launch, it registered more than 160 million interactions, in 2012. Thus, currently, the system registers more than 1.4 billion interactions, with a daily average of 800 thousand interactions.

Geocatmin received six national and international awards over ten years. This way, it won the award for Good Practices in Public Management in the Transparency and Access to Information category; also, the Good Practices in Management of Geo- Information award in the category, called geographic open data from the “Contest of Good Practices in GeoInformation Management of the III National Forum Mapping Peru”, held in 2017.

Based on needs, the platform has implemented different functions, for instance: three dimensions of volcanoes and geological hazards; interoperability with sectors of energy, agriculture, housing, environment, education, health, institutions and universities; as well as open data and metadata; access to mobile, portable and offline devices; and also data analysis tools of geodatabase download and online editing.

Furthermore, Geocatmin has had variations on other platforms such as: “Geocatmin Peru en alerta”, “Geocatmin Covid”, “Geocatmin Economico”, “Geocatmin Antartica”, “Geocatmin 3D”, “GeoPromine”. It has been carried out with the aim of diversifying geological, mining and economic information.

This platform has several benefits for citizens, such as: dissemination of national and international geoscientific information, as well as the promotion of mining investment in the country, support for the communities most vulnerable to natural phenomena, geoscientific research and finally territorial planning and management of the national mining cadastre.

The Geocatmin represents a great side of Ingemmet, for free access to geological and mining cadastral information, which allows the integration and standardization of all data for the development of investment projects.

Online World: INGEMMET is working on the artificial intelligence of GEOCTAMIN. In this regard, all the information will be dynamic and the static data will not be used any longer.
