The Embassy of Peru is very pleased to publish online its digital book “Words for a Song. Peruvian Poems for the Bicentennial”, a collection of 20 poems meticulously selected by Anahí Barrionuevo, who took on the difficult task of choosing among the works of many Peruvian poets to come up with this selection that celebrates Peru through the magic and power of the word.

“Words for a Song. Peruvian Poems for the Bicentennial” seeks to tell part of Peruvian history through poetry and pay fair tribute to all poets; both to those selected for this book, and to those not included solely due to restrictions of space.

This collection of poems —originally written in Spanish— has been translated into English by professor Mariela Dreyfus and Gabriel Lucas Ochoa-Dreyfus, to whom we are deeply thankful.

We invite you all to enjoy it, in the hope that it will fuel your curiosity to discover more about Peru.
