On Saturday, July 26, the Embassy of Peru in Kenya successfully held the first edition of the Pisco Masterclass at the Peruvian restaurant INCA, within a broader program aimed at promoting Peruvian culture and gastronomy in Kenya.

Ambassador Romy Tincopa said that pisco is the spirit of Peru, a symbol of our history and our deep commitment to quality and tradition. She stressed that, with more than 400 years old, pisco is a product obtained exclusively through the distillation of pisco grapes, using a method that keeps quality traditions alive.

The masterclass was led by renowned mixologist María José Urmeneta, who guided attendees through a sensory journey highlighting the history, diversity, and versatility of pisco, Peru’s flagship spirit. Participants had the opportunity to sample various expressions of pisco and learn how to incorporate it into both classic and contemporary cocktails, such as pisco sour, capitan and chilcano. In addition, Peruvian chef Anibal Torres was in charge of the pairing for each cocktail, presenting the attendees with tiradito, suspiro a la limeña and causa de pollo. The event was made possible thanks to the support of the prestigious brand Pisco 1615.

Among the guests were general managers of international hotel chains, executive chefs, professional bartenders, alcohol beverage importers, and representatives from mixology schools in Nairobi. Their enthusiastic participation underscored the growing interest in diversifying Kenya’s premium spirits offering.

This event marks a milestone as the first institutional effort to position pisco in the Kenyan market, aligning with the Embassy’s strategy of cultural and economic diplomacy. This initiative is part of the policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that seeks to expand the reach of our flagship drink in new gastronomic spaces and contribute to its international projection.
