Pisco producers obtained 40 awards at Virtus Lisboa 2021, a prestigious international event for tasting wines, spirits and extra virgin olive oil, held from June 12 to 14 in Lisbon. This year, more than 30 pisco producers from different valleys of Peru competed with around 80 bottles of the 8 strains of our flagship drink, snagging 40 awards (13 Great Gold, 13 Gold and 14 Silver) in the competition. Likewise, three Peruvian wines were awarded two gold and one silver awards.

Some of the distinguished Peruvian sommeliers who participated in the event included Marco Leiva, Lucero Villagarcía, Amanda Díaz and Carlos Oblitas as international jurors. They were awarded for their outstanding performance. The international jury was also made up of renowned top-level international tasters, such as Antonio Ventura, president of the contest; María Isabel Mijares, CEO of Virtus, Jean Pierre Peynaud and José Tarín, among others.

The Peruvian participants offered members of the jury, tasters and organizers of the event, a tasting of preparations with pisco (pisco sour, passion fruit sour and blueberry sour), accompanied by Peruvian snacks such as ceviche, tiradito, causa, lomo saltado and choros a la chalaca.

The important Peruvian participation received the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Peru in Lisbon, as part of the promotion efforts aimed at increasingly better positioning our pisco in international markets.
