Commercial activity registered a growth of 2.06% in May 2024

During May of 2024, the commerce sector grew 2.06% compared to the same month of 2023, driven by the wholesale and retail commerce; meanwhile the automotive commerce registered a decrease.
The commercial activity accumulated a progress of 2.48% between January and May of 2024.
Wholesale commerce increased 2.43%
The wholesale commerce grew 2.43% driven by the greater sale of fuels and lubricants, to mining, fishing and air transport, to retail centers and to the domestic gas distributors.
Likewise, it increased the sale of machinery and equipment, including electric and measurement equipment, transportation (forklift and heavy machinery) and medical equipment. In addition, grew the sale of electronic security equipment and cybersecurity, natural products, professional audio and video equipment, medical products, industrial security equipment, medicines and agrochemicals.
Likewise, it increased the sale of computers, computer accessories and computer programs due to greater rotation in the distributors and wide trademark portfolio. The wholesale trademark of foods, beverages and tobacco increased by the supply of markets and retail chains, with the influence of the Mother’s Day.
Has also evolved positively the sale of agricultural raw materials due to the demand of grains and seeds, those used in the preparation of foods for animals. In contrast, it decreased the sale of construction materials and hardware retailing, as well as the sale of chemical inputs for industrial sector.
Retail commerce increased 2.50%
The retail commerce registered an increase of 2.50% in May, mainly by the sale of products of basic needs in supermarkets and minimarkets for the implementation of advertising strategies and sales promotions in payment methods.
In addition, it grew the sale of fuels in gas stations before the greater vehicular flow and commercial strategies. Department stores registered an increase in their sales, due to attractive offers, clearance of clothing items of different trademarks and special deals, during the campaign of the Mother’s Day.
Likewise, it grew the sale of pharmaceutical, medicinal, cosmetic products and personal care, due to the opening of new sales points and promotions.
In addition, the sale of computers, computers accessories, computer programs and telecommunications equipment expanded due to equipment renewal and software update. The same trend was observed in the sale of foods in poultry houses, butcher shop, fishmongers, grocery stores and greengrocers.
The sale of foods and beverages through vending machines experienced increase, and the sale of parfums and cosmetics through catalogue increased due to season campaigns. On the other hand, the mail order and by Internet sale registered a growth due to the improve in the commercial management and discounts. Nevertheless, the sale of clothing items and footwear decreased and also the sale of hardware items, paints and glass products.
Automotive commerce registered a contraction of 2.45%
The automotive commerce reported variation of -2.45%, due to the lower commercialization of automotive vehicles due to the high competence in concessionaires, and the sale of parts, pieces and accessories of automotive vehicles especially due to lower demand of pneumatics. In addition, the maintenance and repair of automotive vehicles and the sale, maintenance and repair of motorcycles decreased and also of its parts, pieces and accessories.
