Restaurants activity increased in 1.10% in May 2024

Restaurants activity (food and beverages services) grew 1.10% in May of 2024, determined by the dynamism of food concessionaires, provision of foods for contractors, catering service and beverages service. Nevertheless, the contraction of restaurants business themselves was attenuated.

During the first months of the year, the sector accumulated a progress of 1.29%.
Other activities of foods services increased 5.38%
Other activities of food services increased in 5.38%, mainly by the greater activity of foods concessionaires was favoured by new contracts and continuity of projects, in mining camping companies of the fishing, manufacturing and telecommunications sector, institutes, universities, embassies, hospitals and ministries.
Likewise, the provision of foods for contractors (food service to transportation services) registered an increase of greater demand of companies of air and inland transportation, before the greater frequency of travels for festivities and conventions performed in Lima and within the country.
Catering service registered a progress of 80.02%
Catering service increased in 80.02%, determined by the increase in the service of preparation and distribution of foods for events, due to greater services of coffee break, brunch and open bar for corporative lunches, conferences and conventions.

The activity was favoured by the by the performance of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC Peru 2024) forum, carried out in the city of Arequipa and the event Burger Fest in Lima.
Beverages service grew 3.06%
The beverage service registered a variation of 3.06%, due to the increase of sale in coffee shops and bar restaurants business, sale in cold and hot beverages, variety in the sweet and salty snacks menu, theme parties and refurbishment of facilities.
Restaurants area registered a contraction of 0.82%
On the other hand, the restaurants group registered a decrease of 0.82%, due to the lower customer traffic in the establishments of Pollerias (grilled chicken), Chifas (Chinese food), meats and Cevicherias (seafood), ice cream shops, fast foods, Creole food, Japanese food, confectioners and Chinese food, together with the closure of establishments and lower investment in advertising.
Nevertheless, it registered a Good performance the restaurants business, touristic restaurants, coffee restaurants, sandwich restaurants, Italian food restaurants and pizza restaurants, favoured by the celebration of Mother’s Day.
