In 4.7% increased the employed population of Lima Metropolitan area in the mobile quarter April-May-June of 2024

According to results of the Permanent Survey of National Employment (EPEN), in the mobile quarter April-May-June of the current year, the employed population of Lima Metropolitan area increased in 4.7% compared to the same quarter of the year 2023, equivalent to 245 thousand 800 persons. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report Situation of the Labor Market of Lima Metropolitan area, prepared with the results of the EPEN. It also added that in Lima Metropolitan area there are 5 million 461 thousand 300 persons with employment.
Female employed population increased in 6.4%
In the quarter under study, the female employed population increased by 6.4% (154 thousand 300) and the male one increased by 3.3% (91 thousand 300), compared to the same period of the last year.
Likewise, 52.9% (2 million 891 thousand 500) of the employed population of Lima Metropolitan area are men and 47.1% (2 million 569 thousand 700) are women.
By age groups, the employed population of 45 years of age and older increased in 8.5%
The INEI informed that the employed population of 45 years of age and older grew in 8.5% (161 thousand 500) and the employed population of 25 to 44 years of age in 3.6% (94 thousand 100). Meanwhile, the employed population under 25 years of age reduced in 1.4% (-9 thousand 900), compared to the same quarter of the last year.
From the total of the employed population, 13.1% are between 14 to 24 years of age; 49.2%, are between 25 to 44 years of age and 37.7%, are 45 years of age and older.
The employed population with non-university superior education level increased in 7.5%
By comparing the quarter under analysis with the same period of the year 2023, the employed population increased in 7.5% (84 thousand 700) among those that reached the non-university superior education level; in 5.9% (86 thousand 800) those that achieved to study university education level; and in 4.5% (100 thousand 600) those that achieved secondary education.
In contrast, decreased in 6.5% (-26 thousand 400) the employed population with primary, early education and without any level of education.
Employed population grew in all activity branches
During the quarter under study, the employed population increased in all the economic activity branches, outstanding the Commerce sector in 8.9% (96 thousand 800), Construction sector 6.2% (23 thousand 200), Services 3.5% (104 thousand 900) and Manufacturing in 2.7% (19 thousand).
Unemployment rate in Lima Metropolitan area placed in 6.6%
In the mobile quarter April-May-June of 2024, the unemployment rate in Lima Metropolitan area was of 6.6%. It is estimated that 388 thousand 100 persons were seeking employment in Lima Metropolitan area.
It should be noted, that the unemployment rate remained in the same level of the same mobile quarter of the year 2023 (6.6%).
In 3.5% increased the average monthly income coming from work in Lima Metropolitan area
The average income coming from work placed in 1,991.00 Soles, amount that compared to the same mobile quarter of the year 2023, increased in 3.5% (66.30 Soles).
The monthly average income of men placed in 2,295.80 Soles and that of women placed in 1, 642.50 Soles; it means, women won 71.5% of men income. Compared to the same mobile quarter of the last year, the average income of men grew in 6.5% (139.40 Soles); meanwhile, the income of women decreased 0.4% (-7.0 Soles).
Average monthly income of the employed population of 45 years of age and older increased 7.0%
During the mobile quarter under analysis, compared to the same period under study of the year 2023, the average monthly income of the population of 45 years of age and older increased in 7.0% (141.00 Soles), in the group of 14 to 24 years of age increased in 4.0% (47.50 Soles) and in the group of 25 to 44 years of age increased in 0.2% (3.20 Soles).
Average monthly income of workers in the Services sector increased in 5.9%
During the mobile quarter April-May-June 2024, the average monthly income of workers in Services sector increased by 5.9% (117.60 Soles) and in Construction sector increased by 0.6% (13.30 Soles). Meanwhile, the Commerce 2.7% (-44.10 Soles) and Manufacturing 0.2% (-2.80 Soles) sectors decreased.
