The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), in its technical report Conjuncture Progress of Economic Activity informed that in May of 2024, the greater extraction of species of maritime origin favored the growth of the Fishing sector in 329.16%, compared to the same month of the year 2023.
In this result influenced the greater capture of species of maritime origin (451.16%) for indirect human consumption (anchovy for fish meal and fish oil), extracting 1,454.863 tons, a figure that compared to the 7,620 tons obtained in May of 2023, meant an increase of 1,447.243 tons, determined by the continuity of the 1st Fishing Season performed in the North-Center Zone of the country’s coastline.
In addition, the capture for direct human consumption, of species oriented to the preparation of canning (170.7%) and consumption in fresh state (17.2%) increased. Meanwhile, it decreased for frozen (-3.7%) and preparation of curing (-2.4%). On the other hand, the fishing of continental origin reduced in 50.10%, due to the lower extraction of species for fresh state consumption, for frozen and preparation of cured.
Mining and Hydrocarbons sector grew in 1.83%
During the month under study, the Mining and Hydrocarbons sector increased in 1.83% due to the positive performance of the metal-mining activity (2.39%), associated to the molybdenum production (22.7%), silver (21.9%), iron (20.7%), lead (19.8%), tin (7.2%) and gold (4.5%); which was partially counterbalanced by the reduction of extraction of zinc (-11.3%) and copper (-1.1%).
On the other hand, the hydrocarbons subsector registered a negative performance (-1.68%) due to the lower volume of crude oil (-9.4%). Nevertheless, the production of liquids of natural gas (1.5%) and of natural gas (0.4%).
Electricity production increased in 1.80%
During the month under analysis, the generation of electricity increased in 1.80% as a result of the greater generation of hydroelectric energy (10.3%) and renewable energies (60.6%). Nevertheless, the generation of thermoelectric origin (-15.4%) reduced.
Among the companies that outstood by its production were: Fenix Power Perú S.A., Energía Eólica S.A., Celepsa, Parque Eólico Tres Hermanas S.A.C., Electroperú, Enel Generación Perú S.A.A., Orazul Energy Perú S.A., Statkraft Perú S.A., Engie Energía Perú and EGASA.
Regarding the production of this subsector, during the sixth month of the year and according to preliminary information available as of June 27 of 2024, the generation of electricity increased in 0.12%, driven by the greater generation of hydroelectric origin energy (16.3%) and renewable energy (39.3%). This result was counterbalanced parcially by the lower generation of thermoelectric origin energy (-14,1%).
Among the companies that showed better results outstood: Electroperú, Fenix Power Perú S.A., Statkraft Perú S.A., San Gabán, Wind Park Tres Hermanas S.A.C., Orazul Energy Perú S.A., Chinango S.A.C., Celepsa, Empresa de Generación Huallaga S.A. and Kallpa Generación S.A.
