Population who are Internet users increased in all age groups in the first quarter of 2024

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in its technical report Statistics of Information and Communications Technologies in the Households, prepared with the results of the first quarter of the 2024 National Household Survey (ENAHO), revealed that 95.4% of the population of 19 to 24 years of age accessed to the Internet, followed by those that are between 25 to 40 years of age with 91.4% and by those of the age group from 12 to 18 years of age with 86.2%. Meanwhile, the population of 6 to 11 years of age (58.2%) and older adults of 60 years of age and over (47.5%), accessed in lower proportion.
Compared with the same quarter of the year 2023, the Internet users population in all age groups increased, mainly in the population of 6 to 11 years of age in 8.0 percentage points.
Internet users population with primary education level increased from 42.9% to 49.0%
According to level of education reached, the Internet users population with primary or lower education level increased in 6.1 percentage points, by going from 42.9% to 49.0%; among those that achieved to study secondary education level grew in 1.3 percentage points, by going from 84.4% to 85.7%.
Meanwhile, in the population with non-university superior education level the increase was moderate by going from 95.5% to 96.5% and between those that have university education level by going from 97.5% to 98.4%.
77.7% of the population of the country that is 6 years of age and older use the Internet
During the quarter under analysis, 77.7% of the population of the country that is 6 years of age and older accessed to the Internet, which meant 2.7 percentage points more than in the first quarter of the year 2023 (75.0%).
The greater Internet users population is located in Lima Metropolitan area (88.5%) by increasing in 1.3 percentage points compared to the same period of the last year (87.2%). Likewise, in the res turban area (81.9%) and in the rural area (48.5%) increased in 3.7 and 2.9 percentage points, respectively.
90.7% of the population of 6 years of age and older use the Internet daily
The results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO) revealed that 90.7% of the population of 6 years of age and older, used the Internet daily, compared with the same quarter of the year 2023 increased in 0.4 percentage point.
At national level 57.6% of the households of the country have Internet connection
57.6% of the households of the country have Internet connection. Also, 77.5% of the households in Lima Metropolitan area, 61.3% in the rest urban area and 18.1% of the households in rural area.
91.3% of the population has Access to the Internet through cellphone
91.3% of the population of 6 years old and older that uses the Internet, does it through a cellphone (it has been considered: cellphone with or without data plan). In that regard, it outstood 92.9% of the user population living in Lima Metropolitan area by accessing to the Internet through a cellphone, a figure that showed a progress of 1.4 percentage points, compared to the first quarter of 2023 (91.5%).
On the other hand, it decreased in 2.1 percentage points in the rural area and 0.7 percentage point in the rest urban area, where it reached coverages, for this period under study of 91.5% and 90.1%, respectively.
95.3% of the households have some member with cellphone
During the quarter January-February-March of 2024, in 95.3% of the households of the country, there is at least one member with cellphone, percentage that not showed significative change compared to the same quarter of the year 2023 (95.2%).
The greater proportion of households with at least one member with cellphone was reported in Lima Metropolitan area (98.6%), followed by the rest urban area (97.0%) and the rural area (86.2%).
