The potato production grew by 73.2%, at national level; four departments contributed with the 71.3% of the total, during April of 2024

In April of 2024, the potato production registered 1 million 449 thousand 642 tons and increased in 73.2%, compared to the reported in the same month of the year 2023. It outstood the production areas of Puno (286.5%), Ayacucho (37.3%), La Libertad (8.3%) and Cusco (5.2%) concentrating the 71.3% of the national total.
In that regard, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report Peru: Departmental Economic Outlook stated that this result is justified by the normal to superior temperatures and rainfalls higher than their historic registration observed in certain regions that favored the greater harvested areas.
Other departments that showed a positive performance were Huancavelica (86.5%), Lambayeque (67.8%), Ica (58.8%), Junín (40.8%), Pasco (26.2%), Moquegua (25.3%), Apurímac (22.6%), Cajamarca (11.2%) and Ancash (3.7%). Meanwhile, it decreased in Piura (-57.1%), Tacna (-50.8%), Lima (-30.2%), Arequipa (-22.6%), Amazonas (-7.5%) and Huánuco (-1.0%).
In seven departments increased the paddy rice production
During the month under study, the paddy rice production increased in Ancash (31.5%), La Libertad (13.1%), San Martín (5.4%), Amazonas (4.0%) and Cajamarca (2.1%), that together contributed with the 78.7% of the total of the country. In addition, it grew in Pasco (102.4%) and Huánuco (76.9%).
Nevertheless, it reduced in the departments of Madre de Dios (-41.0%), Cusco (-39.1%), Junín (-37.6%), Ucayali (-20.0%), Arequipa (-17.4%), Lambayeque (-12.2%) and Loreto (-1.0%).
At national level, the production of this cereal increased 450 thousand 226 tons, a higher figure in 5.2% than the reported to the same month of 2023, explained by the greater harvested areas and good weather conditions that influenced in the development of this crop oriented to the domestic market.
The departments of San Martín and Amazonas contributed with the 52.0% of the coffee production at national level
The coffee production decreased in 9.8% by registering 5 thousand 276 tons less than the reported in April of the year 2023, determined by the adverse weather conditions for its normal development. In spite of this unfavorable result, the departments of San Martín (-21.0%) and Amazonas (-11.5%), concentrated the 52.0% of the total production of this grain. In addition, it reduced in Ayacucho (-47.1%), Piura (-10.9%), Madre de Dios (-8.8%) and Puno (-3.4%).
On the other hand, it grew in the departments of Ucayali (17.8%), Pasco (13.0%), Huánuco (9.4%), Cusco (5.7%), La Libertad (2.1%), Cajamarca (0.8%) and Junín (0.4%).
Poultry production increased in eight departments
In April of 2024, the poultry production showed a progress of 1.0% based in the greater production of chicken and laying hen. It is worth to mention that the centers of production that located in Arequipa (2.8%), Ica (1.3%) and Lima (1.2%), participated with the 70.2% of the national poultry production.
Likewise, it increased in San Martín (3.8%), Ancash (3.7%), Piura (2.6%), Lambayeque (2.1%) and Moquegua (1.2%). In the other hand it decreased in the departments of Apurímac (-4.7%), Amazonas (-4.4%), Huánuco (-4.3%), Junín (-3.6%), Tacna (-3.5%), Cajamarca (-3.1%) and Pasco (-3.0%), among others.
Copper production decreased in seven departments
During April of the year 2024, the copper production reduced in 8.2% due to the lower extraction in the companies: Antamina, Antapaccay, Marcobre, Shouxin Perú, Minera Las Bambas, Cerro Verde and Gold Fields La Cima. Meanwhile, it increased in the level of production of the Company Southern Perú Copper Corporation, Anglo American Quellaveco and Chinalco Perú.
Within this context, the departments that showed unfavorable behavior were: Ica (-50.5%), Cajamarca (-40.2%), Cusco (-28.4%), Ancash (-23.6%), Ayacucho (-17.0%), Apurímac (-9.1%) and Arequipa (-2.9%). Nevertheless, it increased in Huancavelica (136.6%), Huánuco (78.2%), Tacna (22.6%), Pasco (12.4%), Moquegua (11.9%), Junín (11.2%) and Lima (1.6%).
Electricity production grew in 2.6%
The electricity production increased in 2.6%, in the fourth month of 2024, explained by the greater generation of hydraulic origin energy in the power stations of Charcani I, Machupicchu, Aricota I, Mantaro, Callahuanca and Cañón del Pato, among the main ones. Likewise, it increased the non-conventional renewable energy (Eolic and Solar). Nevertheless, it decreased the thermic energy before the lower generation of the power stations of Paramonga, Santa Rosa, Malacas 2, Chilca 1, Kallpa and Olleros.
The departments that registered a positive behavior were: Arequipa (55.8%), Ancash (48.0%), Ica (39.0%) and Huancavelica (9.8%), that concentrated the 32.3% of the national total generation. Meanwhile, it decreased in Ucayali (-72.6%), Cajamarca (-5.3%), Ayacucho (-5.0%) and Cusco (-0.6%); as well as, Lima (-10.9%) in spite of this result contributed with the 38.6% of the national production.
Revenues Collected by Internal Taxes totalized 16 thousand 714 million 586 thousand Soles
According to the records of the National Superintendency of Customs and Tax Administration (SUNAT), the INEI informed that the revenues collected by internal taxes reached 16 thousand 714 million 586 thousand Soles and increased 6.4% compared to the reported in April of 2023 (15 thousand 708 million 962 thousand Soles), explained by the greater payments of the income tax (first and second category, regularization, among others), value added tax and excise duty.
Among the departments that outstood due to the greater amount collected were: La Libertad (57.1%), Lima (7.4%) and Arequipa (4.0%), that together contributed with the 93.5% of the recruited national total. On the other hand, it decreased in Piura (-57.4%), Ancash (-27.9%), Cusco (-26.7%), Puno (-6.9%), Tacna (-4.6%) and Ucayali (-2.5%).
