In 2025 the INEI will execute the XVIII National Census of Population, VIII of Housing and IV of Indigenous Communities

Executive Branch, through Supreme Decree N° 063-2024-PCM published in the official journal El Peruano, declared of national interest and priority the performance of the National Censuses: XIII of Population, VIII of Housing and IV of Indigenous Communities, in the year 2025, in charge of the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI).
According to the stated in the Law N° 13248, called Law of the Census, is stablished that the performance of the population and housing censuses should be carried out every ten years and the performance of the economic and agricultural censuses should be carried out every five years, among others.
Nevertheless, the need of performing national censuses next year answers to the changes that had experienced the country as a consequence of the pandemic due to the COVID-19, such as the effects that left the El Niño phenomenon; and the growing international migration, that had seriously impacted in the demographic and economic growth.
In this sense, is necessary to indicate that the next 2025 National Censuses will allow to update the demographic, economic and social information of the inhabitants and households of the districts of Peru; as well as the housings information.
The information obtained of the national censuses will serve as tool for the design of public politics, resource allocation, identification of poles of economic development, identify the vulnerable populations, labor force; as well as, establish profiles and projections of population that help to decrease poverty.
National censuses will show the new structure and reality of the country
The INEI specifies that information will collect that shows the needs of the country, for this reason the location of populated centers at level of block that had been merged, fractionated or disappear will be made known. It will identify the urbanizations, human settlements, residential complexes, housing associations, slums, indigenous communities, among others. In addition, it could determine the vulnerability of housings before natural, among other issues.
Regarding the indigenous population, it will get socio-demographic and economic information (poverty, migration levels among others) and cultural contribution (language).
INEI performs the cartographic update and the directory of housings and establishments
The aim is to have updated information at spatial level and the number of housings and existing population by department, province, district and population center, that allows the organization of national registration, the INEI has been held the Cartographic Update and the Directory of Housings and Establishments of the country, in the urban zone, like previous activity to the 2025 national censuses.

In line with this, in 2023, the INEI executed the mentioned activity in the districts with less than 20 thousand inhabitants of the rural zone across the country.
This important statical activity will allow also ensure that all the existing urban and rural population in the district are represented and duly located in the corresponding map, also to verify and update in this last one, the population center that no longer exist or had disappeared.
The personnel in charge had been updating the information of households and existing establishments as well as, the names and last names of the responsible of the household. It is worth to mention that the person in charge to provide the information must be over 18 years of age.
The data collected are referred to the geographic and census location, address, local in use, condition of occupation of the dwelling, data of the responsible of the household, number of electricity supply of the household and identification of the facility and economic activity. Regarding to the infrastructure of the population center, data about the geographic location, population and housings, infrastructure, access roads and means of transportation, will be collected.

INEI in in charge to execute the official statistical activities of the country
According to the stated in the law of organization and functions of the institution and for being the governing body of the National Statistical System (SEN), the INEI has the responsibility of regulate, design and manage the official statistical activities of the country; as well as, the production of statistical information through the censuses.
