60% of the population of 18 years of age and older has some account in the financial system in the first quarter of 2024

According to the results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO) corresponding to the first quarter of the year 2024, 60.0% of the population of 18 years of age and older has some account in the financial system (savings account or remuneration account, time deposit account or current account), figure that shows an increase of 2.6 percentage points compared to the same quarter of the year 2023 (57.4%). This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), in the technical report Living Conditions in Peru.
In addition, it stated that the access to an account in the financial system in the urban area reached the 64.8% of this population group and in the rural area reached the 37.2%, with increases of 2.7 and 1.7 percentage points, respectively, compared to the same quarter of the year 2023.
33.5% of the population with some chronic health problem sought medical attention
The results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO) revealed that 33.5% of the population with some chronic health problem sought medical attention, a figure higher in 1.2 percentage points that in the first quarter of 2023 (32.3%). By residence area, this population reached the 33.7% in the urban area and 32.5% in the rural area.
89.1% of the population of the country has a health insurance
During the period of January to March of 2024, the 89.1% of the population interviewed informed that they have some type of health insurance and registered an increase of 2.5 percentage points more than in the same quarter of the last year (86.6%). In addition, there were reported increases in the urban area in 2.6 percentage points (by going from 85.6% to 88.2%) and in the rural area in 2.0 percentage points (by going from 90.8% to 92.8%).
From the total affiliated population, the type of health insurance with greater access is the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS) with 59.7% at national level, 53.0% in the urban area and 87.2% in the rural area. Besides, it was informed that the coverage of the ESSALUD Insurance, reached the 24.3% of the population of the country. Meanwhile, in the urban and rural area the mentioned medical attention was of 28.9% and 5.1% of the population, respectively.
79% of rural households with child population of 3 to 11 years old were benefited from Breakfast Food Programs
During the quarter under analysis, 68 out of 100 households with child population of 3 to 11 years old that attend state schools, were benefited from the Program of School Breakfast – Qali Warma. According to residence area, in the urban area, 64 out of 100 households accessed to this program and in the rural area 79 out of 100 households accessed to this program.
96.0% of the population has access to electric energy by public network
During the first quarter of 2024, 96.0% of the country’s population has access to electric energy through public network, according to area of residence, in the urban area was of 99.1% and in the rural area was of 83.2%.
Use of the gas for the preparation of foods reached the 89.5% of the households of the country
During the quarter under study, 89.5% of households use gas (use just gas and besides gas other type of fuel) to cook their foods; compared to the same quarter of 2023 (86.8%), it increased in 2.7 percentage points.
On the other hand, 5.9% of the households use firewood to cook their foods, a lower figure in 2.4 percentage points, compared to the first quarter of the year 2023 (8.3%).
