Restaurants activity decreased 3.54% in April 2024

The activity of restaurants (services of foods and beverages) contracted in 3.54%, with reduction reports in three of its four components. It is worth to mention that the comparison base (April 2023) had a greater touristic and gastronomic activity due to the celebration of the Holly Weekend, unlike 2024, that was scheduled in March.
The sector accumulates a progress of 1.33% in the first four months of the current year.
The activity of the restaurants group contracted 6.35%
The group of restaurants showed a decrease of 6.35% due to the lower demand in the headings of pollerías (grilled chicken), cevicherias (seafood), fast foods, chifas (Chinesse food), meats and grills, ice-cream shops, touristic restaurants and sandwich restaurants, caused by the closure of facilities and increase of prices in the menu.
Likewise, it was affected the business of pizza restaurants, Japanese food, confectioners, Chinese food and Creole food. Nevertheless, restaurants themselves, such as coffee restaurants and Italian foods registered growth rates.
Beverage service reduced 3.52%
The group of beverage service registered a variation of -3.52%, due to lower sales in establishments of bar restaurants, juice shops, discos, bars, due to cutting of opening hours, lower coverage of delivery service and temporary closure of local branches due to maintenance.
Catering services decreased by 6.98%
Provision of foods by contract (catering) decreased 6.98%, due to the reduction of service of preparation and distribution of foods for social and public events, in the attention of buffets and banquets.
Group of other activities of food service grew 7.34%
Other activities of food service reported a progress of 7.34%, driven by the activity of de food concessionaires in response to greater food service orders in mining, financial institutions, public institutions, clinics and hospitals dinning places.
In the same vein, the food supply for contractors (service of food to transportation companies) grew because of the demand from air and land transportation companies, before a greater frequency of travels promoted due new destinations and touristic packages.
