It increases the use of the Internet in children and adolescents

During the first quarter of 2024, 72.0% of children and adolescents of 6 to 17 years old, use the Internet service, increasing in 5.1 percentage points, compared to the same quarter of the year 2023 (66.9%). This was announced by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report State of Childhood and Adolescence.
Among the childhood population of 6 to 11 years old, increased in 8.0 percentage points by going from 50.2% to 58.2%, and in adolescents of 12 to 17 years old in 3.0 percentage points by going from 81.9 to 84.9%.
According to mother tongue, 74.2% of children and adolescents with Spanish language use the Internet and those that have some native – mother language (Quechua, Aimara, Ashaninka and other languages) 40.3%; existing a gap of 33.9 percentage points.
On the other hand, Spanish language increased in 5.2 percentage points; meanwhile, girls, boys and adolescents that have native-mother language and use the Internet decreased in 1.7 percentage points.
86.4% of children and adolescents accessed the Internet through cellphone
The INEI informed that, 86.4% of the population of 6 to 17 years old accessed the Internet through the cellphone and 32.8% used the Internet in the household.
Increases the access the Comprehensive Health Care System of children and adolescents
68.6% of children and adolescents access the Comprehensive Health Care System (SIS), figure that showed a growth of 2.2 percentage points, compared to the same quarter of the year 2023 (66.4%).
Likewise, in the urban area increased in 2.4 percentage points by going from 59.3% to 61.7% and in the rural area increased in 2.2 percentage points, it means, from 89.8% to 92.0%.
59.4% of the population under 18 years old that suffered of some chronic health problem sought medical care
During January-February-March of 2024, 59.4% of the population under 18 years old, that informed that they suffered of some chronic health problem, sought medical care, which meant an increase of 1.7 percentage points more than the same quarter of the year 2023 (57.7%).
According to place or medical consultation establishment 19.5% went to the medical consultation establishment of the Ministry of Health (MINSA); meanwhile, 18.9% sought medical care in a pharmacy.
56.9% of adolescents of 14 to 17 years old just study
The INEI informed that, 56.9% of the population of 14 to 17 years old just study, increasing in 1.8 percentage points.
Likewise, 17.9% neither studies nor works, 17.4% studies and helps in some activity and 7.7% just works.
50.4% of households of the country have among their members at least one person under 18 years old
During the first quarter of this year, 50.4% of the households of the country have among their members at least a person under 18 years old, a figure lower in 1.2 percentage points than in the same quarter of the year 2023 (51.6%).
By residence area, 51.1% of the households were registered in the urban area with population under 18 years old and in the rural area 47.9% households were registered in the rural area.
