Domestic cement consumption increased 7.46% in April of 2024

The domestic cement consumption grew in 7.46%, in April of 2024, compared to the same month of the last year. This was informed that the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report Conjuncture Progress of Economic Activity.
In that regard, the INEI stated that the positive performance was possible due to the progress of private works self-construction works. Likewise, it informed that by comparing January-April of 2024 with the same period of the last year, the mentioned sector showed an accumulated increase of 2.09%.
Fishing sector increased in 158.40%
During the month under study, the Fishing sector increased 158.40% explained by the greater extraction of species of maritime origin (212.28%), mainly by the landing of species for indirect human consumption (anchovy resource for fishmeal and fish oil), extracting 778 thousand tons that against the 6 thousand tons registered in April of 2023, which means an increase of 772 tons.
This result was obtained during the first month of the 1st Fishing Season performed in the North-Center Area of the country’s coastline that started in April 16 of 2024.
On the other hand, the fishing of maritime origin for direct human consumption decreased in 3.74%, as result of the lower shipments of species intended for freezing (-11.7%), preparation of curing (-7.5%) and consumption in fresh state (-0.7%). In addition, it reduced the fishing of continental origin (-24.39%), of species intended to the consumption in fresh state, for the preparation of frozen and curing.
Mining and Hydrocarbons sector reduced in 4.34%
The production of Mining and Hydrocarbons sector decreased in 4.34%, in April of 2024, due to the contraction of the metallic mining activity in 4.5%, after 14 months of uninterrupted growth. In this behavior influenced the unfavorable outcome of the copper (-8.2%), zinc (-29.7%) and lead (-1.52%) production. It is worth to mention, that the activity was affected by two days of stoppage of Antamina company plant.
In addition, the hydrocarbons subsector contracted in 3.6% due to the effect of the lower volume of exploitation of the three component products: natural gas (-5.4%), crude oil (-4.4%) and natural gas liquids (-1.9%).
Granting of mortgage loans increased in 5.41%
In April 2024, the mortgage loans totalized S/ 64,382 million, increasing in 5.41%, compared to month of April of 2023. As well as, of consumer loans that placed in S/ 72,881 million, increased in 1.68% compared to the same month of the year 2023.
On the other hand, the credits granted to big, medium, small corporation and micro-companies decreased 3.76%, with the total amount totalized S/ 212,592 million.
In addition, the placement of credit cards of the multiple banking placed in 6,281 thousand units and decreased in 5.23%, compared to the month of April of the year 2023.
Total import value increased in 11.51%
With the information available as of May 09 of the current year, in April of 2024, the total import value was of US$ 4,549 million and showed a progress of 11.51%, compared to the same month of the last year.
This behavior was associated to the import of raw materials and intermediate products that reached US$ 2,380 million, a figure higher in 10.85%, compared to the figure registered in April 2023.
In addition, the import of capital goods and construction materials reported a positive behavior (US$ 1,282 million) with a growth of 17.95% compared to the same month of the year 2023. As well as, the total import value of consumption goods (US$ 887 million), that showed a progress of 5.24%, compared to the value registered in April 2023.
Electricity subsector increased in 2.31%.
According to the information of the Committee of Economic Operation of the Interconnected National System (COES-SINAC), the electricity generation increased in 2.31% in April of 2024 compared to the same month of 2023.
On the other hand, in the fifth month of 2024, according to preliminary figures as of May 29 of the current year, the electricity generation increased in 1.91%, as a result of the greater generation of energy of hydroelectric origin (10.3%) and renewable energies (59.7%). Nevertheless, the generation of energy of thermoelectric origin reduced (-15.3%).
Among the companies that outstood by its production were: Fenix Power Perú S.A., Energía Eólica S.A., Empresa de Generación Huanza S.A., Celepsa, Parque Eólico Tres Hermanas S.A.C., Electroperú, Enel Generación Perú S.A.A., Orazul Energy Perú S.A., Statkraft Perú S.A. and Engie Energía Perú.
