Potato production increased 16.7% at national level and five departments contributed 60.9% of the total in March of 2024

In the third month of 2024, potato production increased in the departments of Huancavelica (69.0%), Puno (64.9%), Ayacucho (61.2%), La Libertad (14.7%) and Junín (13.1%), that together contributed 60.9% of the total produced. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), in the technical report Peru: Departmental Economic Outlook.
In addition, it increased in Apurímac (50.1%), Lima (35.1%), Pasco (15.3%), Piura (4.3%), Moquegua (3.7%) and Ancash (0.7%). Nevertheless, it reduced in Cusco (-46.3%), Tacna (-34.7%), Arequipa (-25.6%), Amazonas (-19.9%), Ica (-17.3%), Cajamarca (-12.1%) and Huánuco (-10.7%).
At national level the production of this tuber reached 607 thousand 901 tons and overcame in 16.7%, the volume reported in the same month of 2023. This result was influenced by the temperatures higher than normal that favored with greater crops and better yields obtained of the crops oriented to the domestic market.
Arequipa and Amazonas contributed with the 52% of the paddy rice total production
Paddy rice total production outstood in the departments of Arequipa (40.4%) and Amazonas (29.3%), both concentrated 52.0% of the national total. In addition, it increased in Pasco (120.0%), Ucayali (88.0%), Huánuco (64.5%), Madre de Dios (38.8%) and Ancash (38.2%). On the other hand, it decreased in La Libertad (-34.9%), Junín (-28.0%), Cusco (-19.4%), Cajamarca (-19.2%), San Martín (-5.5%) and Loreto (-4.3%).
Paddy rice production totalized 354 thousand 413 tons, in March of the current year, registering a growth of 12.2%, explained by the increase of harvested surfaces, as well as the good weather conditions that favored the maturing period of the mentioned cereal.
La Libertad, Lima, Ica and Arequipa contributed in the contraction of poultry production
During the third month of 2024, poultry production decreased in 1.9% due to the lower production of chicken and turkeys for fattening, mainly in the producer centers of La Libertad (-2.4%), Lima (-2.0%), Ica (-1.6%) and Arequipa (-0.6%); nevertheless, together they contributed with the 88.1% of the total poultry production.
Opposite case, occurred in the departments of Moquegua (2.5%), Cajamarca (1.1%), Pasco (0.5%), Amazonas (0.3%) and San Martín (0.1%).
Four departments concentrated 67.0% of copper total production
During the month under analysis, between the departments that had a favorable behavior were Ancash (36.7%), Tacna (28.5%), Moquegua (20.0%) and Arequipa (3.4%), that contributed with the 67.0% of the national copper production. On the other hand, it reduced in Cusco (-44.4%), Junín (-32.8%), Cajamarca (-22.1%), Ica (-21.5%), Ayacucho (-20.3%), Huánuco (-19.7%) and Apurímac (-14.3%).
In the country the copper production increased in 0.9% determined by the greater extraction performed in the companies Antamina, Southern Perú Copper Corporation, Anglo American Quellaveco, Hudbay Perú and Cerro Verde; meanwhile, there were registered lower levels in the Company Minera Antapaccay, Chinalco Perú and Mine Las Bambas.
Lima, Huánuco, Junín and Cusco contributed with the 59.3% of the electric energy production
At departmental level, electric energy production basically contracted in Lima (-16.6%), Huánuco (-14.0%), Junín (-8.9%) and Cusco (-1.5%); nevertheless, together they participated with the 59.3% of the total of generation of electric energy. Meanwhile, it grew in the departments of Ica (114.0%), Ancash (78.4%), Moquegua (66.3%), Arequipa (62.2%), Amazonas (50.4%), La Libertad (49.1%), Huancavelica (27.2%) and Loreto (21.0%), among others.
At national level, the electric energy production decreased in 0.3%, explained by the decrease of the generation in the thermoelectric plants of Independencia, Caña Brava, Santa Rosa II, Malacas I, Chilca I, Kallpa, Las Flores, Olleros and Chilca II. Meanwhile, the production of the hydroelectric power stations of Charcani V, Machupicchu, Mantaro, Restitución, Chaglla and Matucana increased, among the most representatives. The same trend showed the generation of non-conventional renewable energy (Eolic and solar).
Revenues collected by Internal Taxes registered a reduction in 22 departments
The revenues collected by internal taxes were 10 thousand 990 million 855 thousand Soles, amount lower in 20.2% to the collected in March of 2023, due to the lower payments of income taxes related to the first, second, third and fourth category; as well as the regularization area (natural and legal persons).
This unfavorable behavior was reflected specially in the departments of Arequipa (-42.0%), Piura (-25.4%), Lima (-19.6%) and La Libertad (-10.9%), which in spite of all of this, contributed with the 94.0% of the total collection. It is worth to mention that just Apurímac and Amazonas showed positive variations of 21.3% and 5.6%, respectively.
