Vehicles traffic flow at national level grew 3.3% in March of 2024

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), informed that during the third month of 2024, the National Rate of Vehicular Flow the one that reports the movement of light-duty and heavy-duty units through the tollbooths of the country increased 3.3% compared to the same month of the last year.

In the technical report Vehicular Flow by Tollbooths indicates that the monthly result was influenced by the greater traffic flow of light-duty (5.2%) and heavy-duty (0.9%) vehicles. It is worth to mention that during the last twelve months (April 2023-March 2024) grew in 2.5%.
Traffic flow of light duty units increased in 5.2%
During March of 2024, the traffic flow of light duty vehicles registered through the tollbooths of the country increased in 5.2% compared to the same month of the last year. This behavior was driven by the beginning of educational activities in schools, universities and institutes; added to the celebrations for Mother’s Day, Holly Week long holiday weekend that mobilized domestic and foreign tourists; and the performance of different gastronomic events; events that boosted the tourism, accommodation and restaurants sectors and retail trading sector.
The tollbooths that registered the greatest traffic flow were, in the north, in Piura (Loma Larga Baja 232.2%, Chulucanas 212.8% and Piura Sullana 6.1%), Lambayeque (Diversion Olmos 172.3%), Áncash (Huarmey 108.2%), La Libertad (Chicama 53.1%, Pacanguilla 14.7% and Virú 10.1%), Cajamarca (Pomahuaca-Pucará 18.7%) and San Martín (Aguas Claras 12.5% and Pongo 10.1%).
In the center, Lima (Fortaleza 32.5%, Variant of Pasamayo 29.6%, Corcona 25.0% and El Paraíso 20.9%) and Junín (Casaracra 12.8%, Quiulla 8.1%); and in the south, Apurímac (Pichirhua 78.0%), Ayacucho (Pampa Galera 69.1%), Moquegua (Pampa Cuéllar 39.3% and Ilo 2.0%), Ica (Jahuay Chincha 17.9% and Marcona 10.8%) and Arequipa (Patahuasi 8.8% and Matarani-Concesión 3.9%).
Traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles increased 0.9%
During the month under analysis, the traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles increased in 0.9% compared to March of 2023. This result was based in the greater demand of the service of cargo transport in Mining, Agriculture and Wholesale trade activities; counterbalanced by the reduction of Fishing, Manufacturing and Construction sectors; this last one mainly by the lower private investment.
The tollbooths with greater traffic flow were, in the north, Piura (Loma Larga Baja 241.0% and Chulucanas 142.8%), Lambayeque (Diversion Olmos 176.5%), Áncash (Huarmey 86.7%) and La Libertad (Chicama 32.5%) and San Martín (Aguas Claras 7.1%); in the center, Lima (Variant of Pasamayo 28.1%, Corcona 2.4% and Fortaleza 1.0%) and Junín (Quiulla 5.5%); and in the south, was higher in Moquegua (Pampa Cuéllar 99.3%), Apurímac (Pichirhua 86.5%), Ayacucho (Pampa Galera 55.7%) and Ica (Marcona 7.6% and Jahuay Chincha 0.9%).
Traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles for loading of 3 to 7 axle grew 2.8%
During March of 2024, the traffic flow of heavy vehicles for loading of 3 to 7 axle increased in 2.8% compared to the same month of 2023, explained by the increase of the traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles such as trailers, semi-trailers and heavy trucks for loading of 3 axle (12.0%), 4 axle (2.6%), 5 axle (29.5%) and 7 axle (12.7%); meanwhile, the traffic flow of vehicles of 6 axle (-7.2%).
