The employed population in Lima Metropolitan area increased in 4.1% in the quarter February-March-April of 2024

During the mobile quarter February-March-April of 2024, the employed population of Lima Metropolitan area reached 5 million 401 thousand 100 persons, increasing in 4.1% (213 thousand 200 persons) compared to the same quarter of the last year and compared to the same quarter of the year 2019 increased 10.9% (529 thousand 600 persons). This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report Situation of la Labor Market of Lima Metropolitan area, prepared with the results of the Permanent Survey of National Employment (EPEN).
It also statted that from the total employed population of Lima Metropolitan area, 53.7% (2 million 901 thousand 900) are men and 46.3% (2 million 499 thousand 300) are women.
Female employed population increased in 4.5%
During the mobile quarter under analysis, the female employed population increased in 4.5% (107 thousand 100 persons) and the male population increased in 3.8% (106 thousand 200 persons), compared to the quarter February-March-April of the year 2023.
Population with employment of 45 years old and older increased in 8.6%
According to age group, the employed population of 45 years old and older, increased in 8.6% (157 thousand 900) and the population of 25 to 44 years old increased in 2.5% (63 thousand 400). Meanwhile, the employed population under 25 years decreased in 1.0% (-8 thousand 100).
Employed population with university superior education increased in 10.9%
The INEI informed that the employed population with university superior education level increased in 10.9% (159 thousand 200), compared to the same quarter of the last year. Followed by those that achieved to study non-university superior education level in 6.7% (71 thousand 400) and those that achieved to study elementary education level in 0.7% (2 thousand 800); meanwhile the employed population with high-school education level decreased in 0.9% (-20 thousand 200).
Creation of employment was led by Commerce and Service sector
By comparing the mobile quarter under analysis with the same mobile quarter of the year 2023, the employed population increased in the Commerce sector in 7.3% (80 thousand 500), followed of Services in 4.8% (139 thousand 400). Nevertheless, in Construction 3.8% (-15 thousand 500) and Manufacturing 0.8% (-5 thousand 600) decreased.
Employment in companies of 51 and more workers increased in 7.0%
The employed population increased in companies of 51 and more workers in 7.0% (98 thousand 900) and in economic units of 1 to 10 workers in 4.6% (148 thousand 300). Nevertheless, in the establishments of 11 to 50 workers decreased in 5.9% (-34 thousand).
Unemployment rate of Lima Metropolitan area was of 7.7%
In the mobile quarter February-March-April 2024, the unemployment rate of Lima Metropolitan area placed in 7.7% compared to the same mobile quarter of the last year, increased in 0.6 percentage point. It is estimated that 449 thousand 800 persons were looking for a job actively in Lima Metropolitan area.
Population with suitable job increased in 5.0%
For the quarter February-March-April 2024, the employed population with suitable job in Lima Metropolitan area totalized 3 million 137 thousand 600 persons and increased in 5.0% (148 thousand 600), compared to the same quarter of the last year. And the underemployed population grew in 2.9% (64 thousand 600). On the other hand, compared to the same mobile quarter of the year 2019 (pre-pandemic), the population with suitable job increased in 0.5% (14 thousand 400) and the underemployed increased in 29.5% (515 thousand 200).
Average monthly income coming from work grew in 7.1%
During the mobile quarter under analysis, the average monthly income coming from work in Lima Metropolitan area placed in 2,006.40 Soles, amount that meant an increase of 7.1% (133.50 Soles) and compared to 2019 was higher in 15.6% (270.10 Soles).
In all age groups increased the average monthly income
During the mobile quarter under analysis compared to the same mobile quarter of the year 2023, the average monthly income grew in 7.2% (143.30 Soles) among those that are 45 years old and older grew in 7.0% (82.20 Soles) in the group of 14 to 24 years old and in the group of 25 to 44 years old grew in 6.4% (127.30 Soles).
Average monthly income coming from work increased in 15.9% among the workers of Manufacturing sector
During the mobile quarter February-March-April 2024, the average monthly income of workers in Manufacturing sector increased in 15.9%, followed by Service with 7.3% and Construction with 6.7%; meanwhile in Commerce decreased in 3.2%.
