More than 6.5 million of girls and boys celebrate their day this Sunday 14 April

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) reveled that in the country there are 6 million 583 thousand 567 boys and girls between 0 and 11 years old, which represents the 19.3% of the total population of the country (34 million 38 thousand 457 Peruvians).  On the occasion of the Peruvian Children’s Day, that is celebrating in the country this Sunday 14 April, outstood that the total male population is 19.9% are boys that is equivalent to 3 million 357 thousand 400 and the total female population is 18.8% are girls that is equivalent to 3 million 226 thousand 167).
 
39.9% of the households have among their members at least one girl or boy under 12 years old
According to preliminary results the National Household Survey (ENAHO) 2023, in the 39.9% of the households, there is at least a girl or a boy under 12 years old. By residence area, in urban area the proportion reaches 40.4% and in the rural area the proportion reaches 38.0%.
 
Seven (7) out of ten (10) two-parent households have at least one girl or a boy under 12 years old
According to ENAHO data of 2023, 74.3% of the two-parents’ households (with both parents) have at least at girls or a boy under 12 years old. Meanwhile that in the single-parent households (with just one of the parents), this proportion reaches 25.7%.
 
98.3% of girls and boys under 12 years old have DNI
At national level, up to 2023, 98.3% of girls and boys under 12 years old have the National Identity Document (DNI), percentage that shows an increase of 0.8 percentage point compared to the level registered in the year 2022.  According to residence area, 98.4% of girls and boys have DNI in the urban area and 97.8% in the rural area.
 
Nine (9) out of ten (10) girls or boys under 12 years old are affiliated to some type of health insurance
According to the ENAHO 2023, 93.9% of the population under 12 years old was affiliated to some type of health insurance. At a disaggregated manner, 70.7% was affiliated only to the SIS, 20.3% just to EsSalud and 2.9% to other insurances.
 
In the rural area, 96.2% of girls and boys have some type of health insurance and in the urban area reached 93.3%.
 
Five (5) out of ten girls or boys between 6 to 11 years old use the Internet
According to the information of the ENAHO 2023, 57.1% of the population of 6 to 11 years old use the Internet, figure that represents an increase of 1.3 percentage points compared to the year 2022. By residence area, in the urban area 66.7% and in the rural area 27.7% accessed to the Internet.

80.5% of girls and boys of 3 to 5 years old attend early education level 
During the year 2023, the rate of school attendance in early education level of the population of 3 to 5 years old reached 80.5%, according to sex, girls reached 81.7% and boys reached 79.4%. By residence area, school attendance to early education level in urban area reached 80.6% and in the rural area 80.3%.
 
92.9% of girls and boys of 6 to 11 years old attend elementary education level 
The net rate of school attendance of the population of 6 to 11 years old to elementary education level reached 92.9%. In the case of girls, the net rate of school attendance was of 93.3% and in the case of boys the net rate of school attendance was of 92.6%.
