Mining and Hydrocarbons sector increased 15.94% in February of 2024

The production of the Mining and Hydrocarbons sector increased in 15.94%, in February of the current year, as a result of the expansion of the metal-mining activity in 17.10% and hydrocarbons activity in 8.85%. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report Conjunctural Progress of the Economic Activity.
 
This favorable performance was supported in the greater volume of copper (13.6%), molybdenum (59.0%) and gold (29.0%) production, mainly. The result of the hydrocarbons subsector answered to the greater volume of exploitation of the three product components, among those that outstood were the crude oil (28.7%) and liquids of natural gas (5.1%).
 
The Fishing sector decreased by 31.26%
The INEI informed that in the Fishing sector contracted by 31.26% explained by the lower extraction of maritime origin species (-35.17%), basically of species intended for indirect human consumption (anchovy for fishmeal and fish oil), extracting 318 tons, compared with the 43 thousand 864 tons corresponding to February of the year 2023, which means a reduction of 99.27%. 
 
Likewise, it was affected the landing of species for direct human consumption (-30.06%), such as fishing for preparation of canning (-54.9%), for frozen (-47.1%) and preparation of curing (-8.4%). Nevertheless, the extraction for consumption in fresh state grew (9.2%). 
 
It is worth to mention that the fishing of continental origin decreased in 6.71% due to the lower extraction of species in fresh state.
 
Domestic cement consumption reduced by 0.72%
During February of the year 2024, the domestic cement consumption decreased by 0.72%, determined by the reduction of private works and self-construction; compared to the registered in February of 2023.
 
Investment Expenditure of the General Government increased by 39.62%
The Investment Expenditure of the General Government (S/. 3,221 million) grew in 39.62%, compared to the month of February 2023. This result was explained due to the increase of the investment in construction and machinery and equipment; the investment in public construction was registered in the three levels of government (national, regional and local).  Meanwhile that the investment in machinery and equipment was observed in the regional and local government level.
 
Additionally, the General Government consumption expenditure, in nominal terms, totalized   S/ 9,529 million, a higher amount in 5.77%, compared to February of the year 2023.
 
Granting of mortgage and consumption loans maintains dynamism
During the second month of the current year, mortgage loans totalized S/ 63,944 million, registering a growth of 5.27%. Followed by consumer loans, that placed in S/ 73,328 million, increasing in 4.28%, in both cases, compared to the same month of the last year.
 
Meanwhile, credit provided to big, medium, small corporations, and micro-enterprises totalized   S/ 208,078 million, decreasing by 5.78%, compared to February of 2023.
 
On the other hand, the placement of credit cards of multiple banking placed in 6,295 thousand units and registered a decrease of 7.04% compared to the same month of the year 2023.
 
Electricity generation increased by 0.58%
According to preliminary figures up to March 26 of the current year, the electricity generation increased in 0.58%, due to the greater generation of energy of hydroelectric origin (9.7%) and renewable energies (127.9%); nevertheless, the thermoelectric origin decreased (-21.5%).
 
Among the companies that outstood by its greater production were: Parque Eólico Tres Hermanas, Parque Eólico Marcona, Empresa de Generación Huanza, Orazul Energy Perú, Celepsa Renovables, Electroperú, Enel Generación Perú, Statkraft Perú S.A. and Electro Oriente.
 
Import of goods showed an unfavorable behavior
With the information available as of March 21 of 2024, in February of the current year, the total imported amount was of US$ 4,024 million, registering a decrease of 0.40% compared to the value registered in February of 2023.
 
Therefore, the total amount imported in the consumption goods totalized US$ 827 million, registering a decrease of 9.36%, followed by the acquisition of raw materials and intermediate products that placed in US$ 2,067 million, registering a reduction of 1.54%, compared to the same month of the last year.
 
On the other hand, the import of capital goods and construction materials increased and totalized US$ 1,127 million, which meant a progress of 9.63%, compared to the same month of the year 2023.
