51.8% of the population of the rural area accessed to the Internet

During the fourth quarter of the year 2023, 51.8% of the population of 6 years old and older of the rural area of the country accessed to the Internet, being 8.6 percentage points more than in the same quarter of the year 2022 (43.2%). Meanwhile, in Lima Metropolitan area increased in 3.2 points by going from 86.6% to 89.8% and in the rest of the urban area in 3.8 percentage points going from 78.1% to 81.9%. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report Statistics on Information and Communication Technologies in Households, prepared based on the results of the National Survey of Households (ENAHO).
 
In addition, it stated that 78.8% of the population of 6 years old and over of the country used the Internet, which means a progress of 4.7 percentage points, compared to the same quarter of the year 2022 (74.1%).
 
In all age groups increased the access to the Internet
During the quarter under analysis, compared with the same quarter of the last year, the use of the Internet increased in all age groups. Therefore, among the population of 60 years old and older, grew in 7.3 percentage points, by going from 37.6% to 44.9%; in the group of 41 to 59 years old, in 6.7 percentage points, it went from 70.5% to 77.2%; among girls and boys of 6 to 11 years old increased in 5.2 percentage points (by going from 58.3% to 63.5%); in lower intensity grew among those that are 25 to 40 years old, in 4.3 percentage points; the adolescents of 12 to 18 years old, in 3.7 percentage points and in the young people of 19 to 24 years old in 1.8 percentage points.
 
It is worth to mention that 95.6% of the population of 19 to 24 years old and 91.2% of young people and adults of 25 to 40 years old, are the greatest users of the Internet.
 
Population with superior education level accessed in greater proportion to the Internet
According to level of education, 98.2% and 96.4% of the population with university and non-university superior education level, respectively, used the Internet in greater proportion. Meanwhile, 87.9% of the population with high-school education level and 52.8% of the population with elementary or lower education level, accessed to this technology. 
 
Compared to the same quarter of 2022, increased the use of the Internet in all education levels of the user population, mainly in those with elementary or lower education level (6.6 percentage points).
 
49.1% of the population who are Internet users connect through cellphone without data plan
According to ENAHO results, of the total of the population of 6 years old and older who are Internet users, 49.1% accessed through a cellphone without data plan, modality that increased in 2.3 percentage points, compared to the same quarter of the last year (46.8%).
 
Likewise, 42.2% accessed to the Internet through a cellphone with data plan, 17.1% through a laptop, 15.9% through a computer, 1.9% used a Tablet and 11.5% other type of device such as a Smart TV.
 
There is at least one member with cellphone in 95.7% of the households of the country
During the fourth quarter of the year 2023, in 95.7% of the households of the country there are at least one member with cellphone, the greater percentage growth was registered in Lima Metropolitan area with 98.8%, a superior figure in 2.1 percentage points, to the reported during the last quarter of the year 2022 (96.7%). In addition, there were registered increases in the households of the rest urban area (97.3%) and in rural area (87.6%) with increases of 0.8 and 1.7 percentage points, respectively.
 
96.2% of the countries of the country have at least one Information and Communication Technology
During the last quarter of the year 2023, 96.2% of the households of the country have at least a one Information and Communication Technology of the households of the country of the country have at least one Information and Communication Technology (including a landline phone or cellphone or cable TV or Internet), observing a progress of 0.9 percentage point more than in the same quarter of the year 2022 (95.3%).
