Three departments contributed with the 52.0% of the paddy rice production of the country in January of 2024

During January of 2024, the paddy rice production increased in the departments of Tumbes (109.4%), Lambayeque (62.2%) and San Martín (7.7%), compared to the same month of the year 2023, contributing with the 52.0% of the total production. This result was a consequence of good weather conditions that favored the maturing period of this cereal, oriented to the internal market. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the Technical Report Peru: Departmental Economic Outlook.
 
Likewise, the departments of Huánuco (64.1%) and Amazonas (1.1%) showed a positive performance. Nevertheless, this result was attenuated by the lower production reported in Piura (-33.1%), one of the main production areas of the country, before the occurrence of heavy rains in the region; in addition, it decreased in Pasco (-49.9%) and Madre de Dios (-42.2%), among others.
 
At national level, the paddy rice production reached 229 thousand 103 tons, registering an increase of 2.0% compared to the same month of 2023.
 
Piura keeps as main mango producer in spite of adverse weather conditions
Unfavorable climatic factors influenced in the flowering and fruiting stage of mango crops that were affected by anthracnosis, which caused a smaller crop in the department of Piura (-88.0%); nevertheless, the mentioned region kept as the first producer at national level. Likewise, it decreased in the following departments Lambayeque (-58.4%), Ancash (-50,5%), Ica (-27.6%) and Cajamarca (-5.3%), which concentrated the 87.5% of the total produced.
 
The mango production reported 30 thousand 535 tons at national level, a lower level in 83.2%, compared to the observed in January of 2023 that totalized 181 thousand 543 tons.
 
Departments of Arequipa, La Libertad and Lima contributed with 81.2% of the poultry production
During the month under study, the poultry production showed a negative behavior in 21 departments, such is the case of the main production areas Arequipa (-3.2%), La Libertad (-3.0%) and Lima (-0.5%); that together contributed with the 81.2% of the total production. Meanwhile, it grew in the departments of Moquegua (3.1%), Huánuco (1.6%) and Cajamarca (0.05%). 
 
Across the country, the poultry production reduced in 1.6%, explained by the lower placement of BB chicken of the meat line; as well as the high costs of food supplies and high temperatures that affected the development and capacity of livestock production.
 
Copper production decreased after 16 months of uninterrupted growth
During January of the current year, the copper production slightly decreased in 0.3%, after accumulating 16 months of positive trend, before the reduced volumes obtained from the companies Cerro Verde, Minera Las Bambas, Chinalco Perú, Marcobre, Gold Fields La Cima and in Hudbay Perú; counterbalanced by the greater extraction performed in the following mines Southern Perú Copper Corporation, Antapaccay, El Brocal and Anglo American Quellaveco.

At departmental level, it contracted in Junín (-21,5%), Apurímac (-17.0%), Ica (-12.8%) and                   Arequipa (-10,8%), mainly. Meanwhile, it increased the extraction of this mineral in Pasco (27.5%), Cusco (19.0%), Tacna (18.8%), Moquegua (7.9%), Lima (5.8%) and Ancash (1.7%), which together represented the 61.4% of the national copper production. 
 
Electric energy production grew in fourteen departments
The INEI informed that electric energy production during the first month of 2024, outstood in the departments of Moquegua (53.5%), Ica (52.9%), Huánuco (38.3%), Junín (29.6%), Pasco (27.1%), Cajamarca (22.7%), Puno (19.6%) and Huancavelica (15.5%), which contributed with the 45.3% of the total generation of energy.
 
On the hand, it was reported in Piura (-17.4%), Ancash (-11.3%) and Lima (-10.8%), regions that had the greatest negative impact.
 
At national level, the electric energy production increased in 4.0% driven by the greatest generation of hydraulic energy in the power stations of Huanza, San Gabán II, Cerro del Águila, Santa Rosa II, El Platanal and Cañón del Pato, among the main ones; also contributed the generation of non-conventional renewable energy (Eolic and Solar). Nevertheless, the production of thermic energy reduced due to the lower generation in the power stations of Chilca I, Paramonga, Maple Etanol, Doña Catalina and San Jacinto. 
 
Revenues collected by Internal Taxes increased in 20 departments
During the month under analysis, the revenues collected by internal taxes increased in 20 departments, among those that outstood were: Ica (20.7%), Junín (17.3%), Cusco (12.6%), La Libertad (8.3%) and Lima (8.1%), contributing with the 91.8% of the collection at national level. Nevertheless, it decreased in Moquegua (-25.8%), Arequipa (-16.6%), Piura (-13,5%) and Loreto (-0.7%).
 
In Peru, this collection totalized 12 thousand 937 million 759 thousand of Soles, a higher amount in 7.3% to the received in January of 2023, encouraged by the increase of the payments of income tax to the first, second and fifth category, as well as the Tax MYPE regime; added to Value Added Tax.
