Restaurants activity increased 1.45% in January 2024

In January 2024, the restaurants activity grew 1.45% compared with the same month of 2023, driven by the positive evolution of restaurants, beverage service and other activities of food services. Nevertheless, the provision of foods by contract decreased. 
 
Restaurants businesses increased 1.32%
Group of restaurants registered a progress of 1.32%, favored by the greater demand in the activities of fast foods, restaurants, touristic restaurants, coffee restaurants, picanterías (traditional restaurants with kitchens to firewood), pollerías (grilled chicken) and pizza restaurants, in response to the exclusive discounts with credit cards, online reservations, increase of orders to pick-up in restaurants premises, sales promotions due to birthdays celebrations and extending opening hours due to summer season.  
 
Also, a greater sale of international food, vegetarian food, sandwich and creole food was registered, due to delivery Service, marketing in social media, remodeling and opening of new restaurant premises. The activity was driven by the performance of gastronomic fairs such as “XII Festival of Queso Helado Arequipeño” and “Gastronomía Viva” in Lima. 
 
On the other hand, other sector showed a lower activity, such as cevicherias, meats and grills, Japanese food and Chifas (Chinesse food).
 
Beverage Service increased by 5.03%
Beverage Service reached a variation of 5.03% due to the dynamism in businesses of coffee shops, discos, bar restaurants and pubs, motivated by the start of summer season with greater nocturnal activity, extension of environments, sales promotions by mobile applications, great variety of plates and cocktails, open bar in chilcanos, drinks and snacks and presentation of musical groups and live shows.
 
Contributed also to the activity the celebrations due to the “Chilcano Week” and the Anniversary of Lima.
 
Provision of foods for contractors drives other activities of foods service
Other activities of foods services grew 0.37%, driven by the provision of foods for contractors (food service to air and inland transportation companies) due to the greater frequency of travels to attend the national and international tourism, attracted by touristic packages and the start of summer vacations. 
 
Nevertheless, the group was affected by the activity of food concessionaires that registered a decrease of contracts with some manufacturing, financial companies of health and education sector.
 
Catering Service decreased by 4.69%
Provision of foods by contract (catering) decreased by 4.69%, due to lower request of preparation and distribution of foods service for events, in attention of buffet and banquets services for corporative and social celebrations.
