Population with some health problem that seek medical attention increased from 43.5% to 47.0%

During the fourth quarter of 2023, 47.0% of the population with some health problem sought medical attention in an establishment, a figure higher in 3.5 percentage points, compared to the same quarter of the last year (43.5%). This was informed the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in technical report Living Conditions in Peru, prepared with the results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO).
 
According to place or establishment, 21.4% sought medical attention in pharmacy or apothecary, 14.3% went to establishments of Ministry of Health (MINSA), 5.2% went to a private practice and 4.5% went to an establishment of Social Health Insurance (EsSalud). By comparing with the same quarter of the year 2022, the greater percentage growth at national level was registered in: MINSA establishments in 1.4 percentage points, by going from 12.9% to 14.3%. Followed of the population that went to the pharmacy, by going from 20.5% to 21.4%. In lower proportion grew the percentage that went to Social Health Insurance (EsSalud) establishments, in 0.7 percentage point.
 
By residence area, in the urban area the place or establishment of greater attendance was the pharmacy or apothecary (22.9%) and MINSA establishments (11.8%). Meanwhile, in the rural area 24.9% sought medical attention in MINSA establishments and 14.9% in pharmacy or apothecary.
 
88.6% of the population accessed to some health insurance
During the quarter October-November-December of 2023, 88.6% of population interviewed manifested to access to some health insurance (being public or private), a figure greater in 1.6 percentage points compared to the same quarter of the year 2022 (87.0%). 
 
In the urban area, the access to some health insurance increased in 1.8 percentage points (by going from 85.8% to 87.6%) and in rural area the access to some health insurance increased in 1.0 percentage point (from 91.9% to 92.9%).
 
From the total of the population affiliated to some type of health insurance, the greater percentage only accessed to the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS), 61.3% at national level. By residence area, 55.2% in the population of the urban area and 87.2% of the rural area.
 
88.6% of the countries of the country cook their food with gas cooker
During the fourth quarter of the year 2023, at national level, 88.6% of the households of the country cook their food with gas (use just gas and besides of the gas they use other type of fuel) and showed an increase of 1.4 percentage points, compared to the same quarter of the year 2022.
 
The use of gas for the preparation of foods was higher in the urban area (95.2%), tan in the rural area (63.2%); registered a growth in the first case of 1.6 percentage points; meanwhile, at the rural level did not reported variation.
 
84.5% of the households of the country with boys and girls of 3 to 11 years old that attended public schools received QALI-WARMA school breakfasts
During the quarter under analysis, 84.5% of the households of the country with girls and boys of 3 to 11 years old that attended or belong public schools, were benefited by the program Qali Warma School Breakfasts; increasing in 1.3 percentage points compared to the same quarter of the last year.
 
In the urban area, this access reached 83.1% of the household that meet this condition and in the rural area 88.3% compared to 2.6 percentage points in the urban area; meanwhile, it decreased in 1.8 percentage points in rural area.
 
Tenure of bicycle reached 17.5% of the households in the country
According to the results obtained during the quarter October-November-December of the year 2023, 17.5% of the households have bicycle, increasing in 1.3 percentage points, compared to the same quarter of the year 2022. In addition, it grew in the urban area in 1.8 percentage points (from 17.7% to 19.5%). 
 
14.3% of the households had automobile/truck, 13.7% motorcycle and 7.4% had moto-taxi. 
 
The tenure of motorcycle, at national level increased in 1.7 percentage points (from 12.0% to 13.7%). In addition, it registered increases in urban and rural areas in 1.9 and 1.0 percentage points, by going from 9.9% to 11.8% and from 19.6% to 20.6%, respectively.
 
More than the half of the population of 18 years old and over have some account in the financial system
During the last quarter of the year 2023, 57.1% of the population of 18 years old and older have some account in the financial system (savings account or remuneration account, time deposit account or current account), a figure higher in 3.4 percentage points, than that registered in the same quarter of the year 2022 (53.7%).
 
According to residence area, this percentage was of 61.3% in the urban area and of 37.4% in the rural area, increasing in 3.4 and 2.7 percentage points, respectively; compared with the last quarter of the year 2022.
